I entered the Open division of the FtWorth Golden gloves tournament at age 33, never've fought a santioned fight in my life, yet the cut off age is 34 . I am definatly heavyweight, and run a mile to a mile and a half every other day and lift weights. I do understand that there is a difference between being in shape and being in boxing shape. I am an idiot for even considering this ain't I ?
Just do it. :good Change your training a bit. Run further, and/or do sprints. And do some regular boxing stuff ..... the bags, sparring, etc. If you wanna know more, watch Rocky.
You won't know what you're up against until you try- Experience is what it's about. If you've never boxed in your life, you got quite a hill to climb... You might get your ass whipped at taught a lesson, or you could go in there knocking the dicks off people and taking names... Do it and find out.
Just do it while you can. When you're 34 you can box other 34 year olds in a master division. One of my trainers was 44 and won an senior tournament.
I kinda expect to walk in to a beatdown, but I could at least say I tried. That is such a terrible attitude to have, maybe I'll go in under an alias name so I won't smear someone I know who's close to me's name through the mud.
Unforgiven and I are correct; listen up- If you go into something (especially a fight) thinking you'll probably lose, and don't want to embarass family, etc. it's bad news. You've lost already. There has to be a reason for even considering this, or you happen to be a masochist. Go in there and do your best and kick some asses around! If you have the confidence or craziness to consider fighting, you think you have something that can give you success. Capitalize on those qualities and try to develop your weaknesses. Don't hold back in sparring in regard to trying to hurt the other guy. Knock the dog**** out of everyone you can. Now go.
I originally and do still have the drive to beat some ass. But then I hear the neysayers and it makes me think twice, but Im old enough to give a less **** about people who think Im crazy for even thinking of such a thing. I t really doesnt matter,I will make it what I make it to be.I f I walk in already lacking confidence then there is no point in even trying.Obviously I have the drive because I wouldnt have even considered this in the first place. As long as I leave it all in the ring Ill be able to walk with my head up. I have such a passion for this sport and it does run in my blood. **** it , Im signing up.
I say do it. Swing for the fences and hope for the best, with any luck you might have the power of a George Foreman or something dude!
Would you mind my asking your height, weight, and reach? Are or were you an athlete? Street fights? Fast hands? Rhythm? What are your assets? I and I'm sure many others out here could give you some sage advice if we know what we're looking at.
I had my 'Wanna git in there, and try it...' moment alot earlier in life than you do!!! 33 huh?...Go for it tough guy...expect a headache, and you walk around touching your sore nose alot.
