Zale was 5'8. He is a natural MW and I'd say twice as strong and twice as slow as Floyd. Chances are that he would be roundly outclassed; however, he has two things going for him and sometimes even one of them would be enough: One, he was a murderous body puncher (an opponent once said that Zale's shots to the belly "felt like someone stuck a hotpoker in you and left it there"). Two, he was extremely tough.

Over 15 rounds, I'd give him perhaps more than an outside chance. Floyd never met anyone as tough as Zale -including Gatti, and Floyd can be temporarily neutralized if you put his back to the ropes and wheel on him. Oscar did this and it worked... but he abandoned it because he was concerned about conditioning late in the fight. Zale wouldn't have the concern.

Mayweather does not back peddle, he circles from side to side.. Ring movement. People saw him fight De LA Hoya. And saw mayweather lay on the ropes and let Oscar punch away and miss mind you. And people call it back peddling. Come on now. Generally, people who back peddle. are either tired or hurt. And he was neither one of them in there fight.

Backpeddling? Tired and hurt? Who said that? If you are trying to argue your way out of acknowledging that Floyd did in fact move backwards and could in fact be bulled into the ropes, you should surrender now.

Oscar was not missing everything, by the way, and Floyd's was doing nothing very skillful on the ropes -he would lean back and redundantly bend to his right, which is a big mistake when you are dealing with a hooker. Floyd looked vulnerable there.

If Mayweather farted around on the ropes against Zale, he'd get hurt really bad.Zale was one of the all time best body punchers in history, and threw bombs relentlessly. Its a shame we have to go up two weight classes and more than 60 years ago to find a guy who could roast Weeping Boys ribs, but Zale could do a serious number on Floyds midsection, thats for sure.

Zale would do more than work on Floyd's body. He'd pound on those arms and shoulders to reduce the effectiveness of Mayweather's shoulder roll defense in close. A stronger, harder puncher can make you feel like your shoulders are being dislocated.

Floyd would hafta demand a big ring to allow for plenty of movement. If he could keep Zale on the end of that jab he'd survive.
