Yep. Cant recall, but was it against Thornton or Malinga where at one point he almost literally run around the ring?
Chris was good if guys came at him, but his balance was terrible if he had to go looking for people. But against aggresive guys he was at his best. In a few of his pre title fights he got slated for not finishing poor opponents off. He posed a lot, to disguise the fact he gassed a bit. Nunn, Kalambay, Graham would have run rings around him
Yeah he supposedly used to slack in training believing it was silly to extend one's self in training so when it came to fights he was surviving on instincts.
Bottom line was, forget Technique, forget whatever you think text book or efficient is. When the going got tough, and i mean very very tough.....Chris Eubank could really fight. There's not many fighters around today that can fight. Look at the recent title fight.....Alexander vs Bradley. Alexander could not hack it, and was bit of a *****. Devon Alexander was being taken into a fight, all his boxing skills and technique where nullified by Timothy Bradley, and that's when a boxing match..."Becomes a fight". Same thing happened when Lennox Lewis fought Vitali Kiltschko. They both canceled each others boxing skills out, and had to go to war. Lennox Lewis was just a fat **** during that fight, and could't really applie his skills..... Not many boxers can really fight these days, thats why when they get in a fight. Where they are basically in a stale mate of a fight, it will just be a boring ass fight. "Because they can't fight" Chris Eubank was probably one of the most strongest fighters psychologically.......i have ever EVER seen, physically he was a very strong man aswell. "And I've also heard rumours that BMW, used to crash cars into his Chin to test, there cars safety" Chris Eubank had above average reflexes. Chris Eubank had above Average hand speed. Chris Eubank had underrated Power big time. Chris Eubanks movement and footwork was unnatural, but so ****ing what it kept him out of trouble, and literally pissed off his opponents. Because he had a very awkward stance. Whoever said Heroel Graham "or however you spell it" would beat Chris Eubank, needs to calm the **** down. Just Heroel Graham never won a world champion, lets not get carried away and start giving him fights he would of been hit in. Graham & Nunn would of both be sparked out by Chris Eubank, nobody ever had a easy night with Chris Eubank. Graham and Nunn where both bitches who crumbled, and crumbled badly when the going got tough........ "Chris Eubank used to wank over "The going getting tough" he was a underrated bad ass" Chris Eubank was a true winner, he always found a way. He was a very very dangerous man, even more dangerous than Nigel Benn. When his back was truly against the wall, I've never seen him quit inside of the ring. It was the reason why he never lost to Michael Watson, and the reason why nobody stopped him. The Referee stopped him vs Carl Thompson. What a charactor, what a man. Never mind watching him fight, i just like listening to him speak. "Just like Audley Harrison" [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ncp4dFsI-U&feature=fvsr[/ame]
Off topic but met Eubank in Manchester one night in a hotel bar, was really welcoming and sat with us talking all night, had abit of an entourage with him and sent them all away so we didnt feel uncomfortable. Even bought a round of drinks
a great fighter, tough and resilient and good at the mind games. he was good technically but I'd have to agree and say that his awkwardness was his best asset
Agree. I did'nt mean to marginalize Eubank's overall ability by criticizing his technique, cause at the end of the day, whilst he had those technical issues, he was effective. Eubank was all man in that ring, he had an iron chin, good/decent speed, a huge heart, good/respectable power. If Eubank never learned to Box he would of still been a decent fighter because of the aforementioned physical attributes he was born with. Eubank has the type of robustness that makes Froch the fighter he is. Take the first Benn fight, looking back in hindsight, Eubank was probably always going to win that fight, simply because he had a better chin, and was the more robust of the two when push come to shove. I disagree about Eubank would of beaten Nunn though, he had enough trouble with Dan Schommer(southpaw).
Nunn would have boxed rings around Eubank. He was in some great fights but theres just too much crap on his record IMHO.
