Ali got a lot of gifts in his career, Jimmy Young being the worst in my eyes, and I thought he lost all three to Norton.
Not sure how Clay has built up his status as the greatest, I know his big mouth had more to do with it than his performances in the ring.
All of the old timers that were around when I started going to boxing gyms in the early 80's couldn't stand the guy.

Sure, those ropes were just perfectly normal and not especially constructed for the king of all hype job's "rope a dope". Sure.

if you are dubious about them ali victories then look to fights such as Liston 1 Frazier twice Foreman Quarry Shavers Williams etc and this will show you where his greatness stems from, also add the fact theres a 3 and a half year enforced break in the middle of that, ali between liston and his lay off was untouchable

The first fight was not fixed, Liston was getting beat up and quit.

Even jacklondon could beat up foreman if only he had some elastic ropes to work with!

Did you call Ali "the king of all hype jobs"? You must be a talentless hack of some kind.

Even one suspicious fight throws a shadow over a fighter's career. And Ali had many suspicious fights..........

First There was a shoulder injury...a tape proves Liston was hit there while extending on a Jab....back then no one quit as Champion with out a dammed good reason...and he was not getting beaten that much.

From Liston's point of view for the second fight, a man is supposed to listen to the count...and Walcott was shoving Ali away like Dempsey had to be shoved away from Tunney.

There was no count for Liston to pick up.

That was a dammed nice short right hand punch catching Liston with his foot off the floor.

As soon as Liston did get a count, he was up and at em.

    Time keeper counted Liston out.

In the old days, you were told never to rush to your feet, get up at 8.

So my view is which way are you going to look at it...yes he was down for 10...but how was he to know what the count was with no ref giving him one.

Liston himself said he could have got up and fought on but decided not to because ali "was crazy."

People called it a dive because it obviously was. Liston flopping around until he thought he'd been counted out, but then suddenly when the fight almost continues, he seems just fine.

I don't fault Ali for it but Liston was in the mobs pocket. Everyone knows that.

Quarry, Shavers, Williams, and etc. were good but not great fighters.
The fights with Frazier were epic and Foreman was a good win but Ali is not the greatest HW in history, not close, he hyped himself up for so long as the greatest that eventually people started to believe it, so much so that many people that have never seen him fight will call him the greatest.
I'm not saying Ali wasn't a great fighter, he just wasn't as good as many now make him out to be.

The loose ropes are one more bit of evidance that a "Shadowy Hand" helped Ali all through his career.....

You guys would have better luck convincing people that Michael Jordan was a mediocre basketball player or that Shakespeare was a crap playwright.
