Megavolt to mom: I got that guy so good! I called him a ******. Do you think Manny would let me slow dance with him if he knew? Mom I actually fell mega bad for the Floyd fan's cause they don't know that Pac gets his strength from the support of his countrymen and that he is like a tornado. His two fisted upper jab cuts will defeat any opponents. Mega then pulls up his pants and wanders out of the house to go sing Karaoke. Roll Credits.

hmm. tough call. i think Mayweather has a valid argument there. i dont think you can take anything away from either man- theyve both accomplished the top status in their sport and done a heck of a lot for it. they both came from smaller weight classes and rose to middle sized ones- and retained dominance.

it all comes down to perception and expectations though. thats the major difference. due to their images- and what theyve done and said- and how theyve done and said it. Mayweather is seen as not achieveing what he could have- and pacquiao although not as talented- or as good to be honest- is seen as achieving far more than was expected. thats the main difference i think.

its like having two kids, one the son of a professor and upper class family, the other from a 3rd world country. they both rise to the top of the medical profession, equally known as the two best surgeons. one is the son of academics, the other never had anyone in his family go to school. who has accomplished more?

thats why pac is seen as having accomplished more- because he came with less. he came from further away, whilst floyd is from a family of fighters, went to the olympics, etc- was always expected to do great things. and when he did them- people went- show me more- show me more. Pacquiao was never expected to do much more than beat morales again- and then defend a few times. the fact that he did more than was expected is what has given him his status and love from the media.

Floyd is the favorite to beat Pacman due to his skills but FOTD is not about who is better than who, 1 on 1. It is about a fighters body of work.
During the decade, Pacman was rated champion or at least top 5 in all weight classes he participated in. He was the underdog in many fights that he won, some of them championship fights. In a span of the decade, very few fighters can claim that they are/were in the top 5 of 7 weight classes.

Floyd is also a a very good fighter of the decade candidate but he was gone for 2 years and i believe that went against him.

the above post is also right. Pac was not expected to do a lot while Floyd was expected to do more.

The title is "Fighter" of the decade. Almost all Pacquiao fights were real wars, real fights while we seldom see a real fight in most of Floyd's fight.

Floyd has legit claim for "Boxer" of the decade tho. :D

If the FotD was awarded for skill, then Floyd would win hands down.

If the FotD was awarded for PPV #'s - I guess Floyd/DLH would win.

It The FotD was awarded to for potential, Floyd would win.

As it is, there is a difference between telling everyone you're the best and taking two years off at the end of the decade and expecting everyone to suddenly forget Pacquiao has gone the hard yards and done the work consistently and drug free for the entire decade.

    Mayweather 18-0 (2000-2009)

    Combined records of opponents:

    672 - 66 - 24

    Pacquiao - 25-1 (2000-2009)

    Combined records of opponents:

    792 - 88 - 19

Take into account Floyd's layoff and he might well have got the nod.

    Too bad.

This can be fixed. These must be notable wins after 00, or you left out some of his good wins like Hernandez. But if it goes for fighter of the decade, maybe the list of opponents they beat frm 00 - now would be a better comparison.
