Danny Garcia is a young promising future boxing star who has some holes in his game that need fixing, he is undefeated but I've been unimpressed with his development as a boxer in his last few fights especially his footwork and punch output. First of all Danny Garcia can be effective boxing backwards or being the aggressor but he has shown flaws fighting in both styles even in matches he was able to edge out so i'll be breaking down how to beat Garcia when he is going backwards and when he is walking you down. When Danny Garcia is boxing backwards he loves counter punching with his left hook especially when the opponent walking him down try to go for his body (Just ask Amir Khan) he is very effective at catching opponents leaning in but no opponents have used effective feints to throw his timing off. The best approach to attack with when facing Garcia I noticed in his fight against Matthysse where he leaned in from space feinted to the body and brought the over hand right to Garcia's head which is a pretty stationary target since he doesn't bend at the waist even in exchanges, after getting Garcia to drop his hand trying to counter with the hook by feinting to the body Lucas was able to repeatedly catch him with the overhand right and DIP under Garcia's left hook by circling low to Garcia's left which also stops Garcia from using his right hand because he throws so much of his weight into his hooks for power. Once you get a shot in against Garcia he can be very dangerous in exchanges so you have to bend at the waist side to side against Garcia when following him around which was what Erik Morales failed at doing, if you have good hip side to side movement against Garcia you will be very successful because his punches tend to be very wide and he doesn't have much of an uppercut. So basically a style like Devon Alexander's when being the aggressor would give Garcia problems because of the good bending of the hip to roll under Garcia's hooks which he loves throwing and multiple Pacquiao like feints would also disrupt what Garcia does because he predicate's so much of his game on timing when going backwards. Having a good jab to the face also helps when walking Garcia down ( Since you won't have to cut off the ring because of his limited footwork) and tucking your head and staying low and making sure you go to his left low after punching is the most effective way to go at Danny Garcia. When Danny Garcia comes forward he is always looking to go to the body or work of the counters and bait you into exchanges, but as a fighter you can not get into exchanges you must box away from Garcia by circling to his right when popping the jab and making sure to roll Garcia's right off the shoulder (Something Mayweather, Bradley would be successful at doing against him). When Garcia comes forward he loves leaning into his shot and as a fighter you must make him pay as he leaves himself open for a lot of right hands especially when he swings the left hook (as shown in fights against Theophane and Herrera). Danny also has a really bad habit of extending his arms while walking backwards when he gets hit, something Morales was able to capitalize on by throwing overhand rights that kept catching Garcia followed by the jab which made garcia put his hands too high and then getting off to the body and moving moving out of range before Garcia let's his hands go (since once one again Garcia doesn't have good enough footwork to evade combinations and merely tries to pullback counter on way to many occasions making him leaving him open to many straight shots like Erik Morales'). Danny best game is when he stands in front of his opponent to exchange shots when he can use his timing against slower opponent's (except for khan who was very careless) and threading the needle with very underrated power. I personally would like to see Danny improve his footwork and side to side movement as too often he is standing straight up to be hit with flush shots, also add uppercuts to his repertoire. Remember this is my assessment on how to be successful against Danny and I am in no way discrediting him as a fighter as he is undefeated for a reason, if there are any fighters you would like to see me break down let me know and also let me know of any other flaws in Danny's game that you have seen, Thanks for reading!
Well this is my personal breakdown post and usually people who are very defensive of certain fighter don't read whole breakdowns and if they do argue their points aren't valid enough to engage in debate.
Danny is limited in some areas, but he has a lot of good strengths which make him a very exciting fighter Great power Granite Chin Will to win His boxing ability doesn't look that refined yet, maybe he needs some time. He is a nightmare for someone like Lucas. Lucas isn't ever going to beat him.
Danny's entire style is built around keeping his head stationary, it is what allows him to time his opponents so well. It has to be stationary so he can gather and analyze as much information as possible with the fewest opponent location deviances possible. It is also what also allows him to take punches so well, as the better you can see a punch the better you can take it. Not knocking your break down at all, it's interesting, and not even saying it wouldn't improve him, just saying it would make him a different fighter, for better or worse is unknowable. So far, Danny has given his opponents more to worry about than vice versa, and that's what keeps him winning. Careful uninterrupted study of his opponents made by possible keeping his head stationary (ala Hopkins, JMM, Cotto etc)has got him this far and it's unlikely to change unless he loses. Also, even the best boxer punchers seem highly flawed as the nature of the style is hardest to pull off, to set your style right in between the other styles gives you always gives a chance to beat them but, in turn, gives them a chance to beat you. You cannot be a ferocious brawler and then a virtuoso pure boxer in the next moment, and that's what would it would take to constantly have the perfect style to beat everyone efficiently. The balance of a boxer puncher gives and takes, that's we'll probably always hear how this boxer puncher is/was really good but has/had many flaws. It's the style that says I plan on ducking no one, I plan on beating everyone, it's also an exciting style, filled with strategy, and why it's the style I enjoy the most.
I see what you're saying but don't you think bob and weavin would of got him under so many of lucas' vicious hooks? my thought
smother him and fight him on the inside, Danny seems a better outside fighter where he can jab and throw his left hook and looks uncomfortable when he has to fight at close range
Yup, but he also swelled Lucas's eye by catching him coming in with one of those monstrous hooks which most believe won him the fight. Also, when you're bobbing and weaving you can't see your opponent as well, which means you'll probably be doing more bobbing and weaving as your opponent will try to keep you on the defensive in hopes of either landing a shot or if all else fails, look good to the judges. It's all a give and take at this level, perfection is a target that is probably best left alone.
Danny can fight going backward, and his left hook is harder to see coming the closer you are. For the most part I agree though, just saying nothing will be fool proof against him in my opinion.
Id like to see the Herrera fight again before posting in here. In genrral I think it you can avoid the left hook you have a good chance of winning
you cant out muscle garcia. he loves that.. but even past prime boxers like judah gave danny problems .. a good boxer will beat garcia in my opinion
