I'm making a series of thread with my in depth analysis on how to beat specific fighters in the most effective way and I will be starting off with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

For starters, you will always have to adapt to the style Floyd is using at times, when floyd stands in place flat footed looking to counter with the pullback right or paw a couple of jabs in the opposing fighter must double jab quickly to obstruct his vision setting up for off hand punches as most memorable in the Shane Mosley fight (Round 2) and a lot throughout the Zab Judah fight early rounds(If you are looking for examples), This way floyd will have to adjust by either starting his back peddling or starting to walk you down, once you double pop the jab in front of his face and get your combination off you must quickly get out of floyd mayweathers hitting range and make him come to you.

Once Floyd starts walking towards you, you must quickly start circling aroung mayweathers left side because if you notice fights where he comes forward a lot such as the mosley fight he doesn't pop a hard jab nor does he use the left hook consistently and he does off his back foot, while you circle to his left you must do something Miguel cotto did very effectively against mayweather which was circling left staying out of range and then when mayweather stepped in use a left hook right hook to the body combination to which mayweather puts his hands up for in a conventional block and as soon as you get off to the body you must double jab again even if you don't hit his face to just mess up his vision procceding by getting out of range again or coming inside for the clinch.

The hardest way to fight mayweather is when he is stepping backwards because of his elite footwork, he is able to check hook, right cross and bring the uppercut off his back foot better than anyone in the game but what I believe is his most dangerous weapon going backwards is his jab to the body, he loves pawing your face and then setting a stiff jab at your belly to stop your momentum and disrupt your rhythm.

So when you're following mayweather you must always keep your right hand up for the check left hook and anticipate mayweathers body jab, once you see him pawing yourface if he sees you drop your left hand he will bring the right cross after jabbing your body (Just ask ricky hatton) so what you must do is get off first by coming in with a jab to the body followed by a flurry up punches from body to head which is something Jose Luis Castillo and Oscar De la Hoya were very successful doing and once you get him on the ropes you can not bring the overhand right to high after going to the body like marcos maidana did because it's not a scoring blow because mayweather tucks his chin, your head punches have to be really wide but short (Refence cotto fight round 8 ) where cotto ripped mayweather with a lot of sort left hooks but threw the right too straight for it to be effective.

If you can follow this basic plan of attack against mayweather I truly believe you will have your best chance at beating the best pure boxer of this era. Granted obviously it's not as easy as it's written because of other things boxers experience against mayweather that can't be simply broke down but this is my best analysis for a gameplan.

If you have any other insight into things floyd does that you can add please do so, I'm always willing to learn as a student of the game and let me know what boxer you would like for me to break down next! thank you!:good

Uppercut when Floyd ducks down to the right.
Oscar was keen on this tactic, but it would have more leverage coming from a Southpaw.

I think Pac could do it, I think Judah should've done it.

Agreed He is very elusive he ducking down an uppercut followed by jabs would be good.

The only way to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr at 147 is to put The Special One: Kell Brook across the ring from him.

He ducks as soon as you throw.. The punches just miss him so you need superhuman speed to miss a punch then throw two more while he's still ducking...

Keep him occupied with the jab.

Pay attention to his back foot pivoting before he throws straight right hand.

    Who's next in the series?

Good thread and good write up, although unfortunately expect this thread to be inhabited by *******s and *****s and trolls and the likes.

I think Maidana had a very good gameplan and Mayweather adapted to an extent but I think mainly Maidana couldn't keep up the frantic pace he set in the first few rounds which allowed Mayweather a little more time to pick his shots. I think a good pressure fighter can have success with Floyd on the ropes. Another thing I think people make the mistake of doing vs Mayweather is headhunting: I think investing to the body especially when Floyd is on the ropes is a worthwhile tactic because its very hard to catch him clean with a power head shot. The chopping overhand right worked on occassion for Maidana too.

I think against Mayweather another thing you have to do is not be predictable and to have a plan b, keep him guessing because he adapts after a few rounds so if possible I think you should have something new to show him after about the 3rd or 4th round.

Its all well and good saying this but MAyweather is probably the toughest opponent to beat and to come up with a strategy to beat. Good thread though and looking forward to the next one.

Thank you very much. And I also believe FMjr is one of the toughest fighters to execute a full game plan against

I agree with most of what you said, although I think Floyd carried Maidana (and I was rooting for Floyd, but at the same time hoping that Maidana would score the upset) so I wouldn't take his tactic.

Yes, In order to beat Floyd you need to load up on the body. Few people have done it and frankly that's surprising. This is point one with the shoulder roll... He can roll head shots, but he still has to block to avoid getting hit to the body, making him far more susceptible to incoming power body shots.

Point two is everyone that uses the shoulder roll (with the exception being Toney) is open for the overhand right. This should be a key punch after a flush power body shot. Easily the best head punch to throw against Floyd.

    Two key things I notice.

One, Floyd loves to throw his left hook during/after an opponents jab, when he does he is wide open for a counter overhand right or right hook, DEEP.

Two, space between Mayweather and opponent. You all too often see the opponent is always the one on the hunt, this is a bad tactic and Mayweather will (most likely) always come out on top. However, when there is space and Floyd is made to be the aggressor he has a major flaw, namely his extended body jab. Of course, Floyd doesn't always throw that punch, but when he does it is easily readable and he leans far forward and to the right..... Just as Marquez waited for Pac's feint this could easily be an ace in the hole counter to have against Mayweather. A heavy uppercut in this situation would probably put him on his ass.

    Two other things to note.

First is, you would have to be extremely lucky to land a flush shot while Floyd is rolling, so any tactic involving that wouldn't be smart.

Second is, Floyd is a round thief (meaning he uses the end of the round to win it), how you would stop this would depend on the fighter but this is something that must be addressed, because it is something that will take place.

Nice topic:good Who are you going to do next?
