Ali had a iron body though .... and actually Brock tried to make Wlad pay for holding as well .... he threw a lot of body shots. Didn't seem to do much though. Same with Vitali .... Lewis was just hammering the body over and over whenever they got in close, and again it did not seem to do much.
Speakers aren't working. Can anyone give me the jist of what he said? Given it's Dwyer, I would imagine it's something along the lines of 'Hit him in the chin really hard'.
I haven't seen the Brock fight so no comment, other than that Brock isn't exact;y what I'd call a puncher. In the Lewis-Vitali fight it most certainly did do something, even though he only did it for a few seconds of one round of the fight, you could tell Vitali didn't like them . That's a different story anyway though, Vitali isn't a clincher like Wlad is, Vitali was clinching Lewis because he couldn't keep him off, Wlad clinches as part of the plan. The point is to discourage Wlad from doing what he does by rote.
Overanalysis and poor comparison to Ali. Ali was much more of a combo puncher and Wlad has loads more power. Eddie Chambers was blocking a lot of Wlad's punches but they were still doing a lot of damage from his own gloves hitting his face. Wlad's power discourages people from rushing in like that. His mobility is exceptional for his size as well and he uses his left hand well to keep distance. Also, I'd like to see how someone like Frazier (under 6') could throw effective power punches inside with a 6'7" 247 pound beast leaning on him. Wlad also trains specifically for his opponent. He was lean and using more more movement against skilled, faster guys like Chambers, Chagaev. Katsidis KO1 Wlad :bbb
I thought Chambers wanted to discourage Wlad from clinching. He threw him down twice if I remember correctly.
It's no secret you have to get inside of Wladimirs jab, and do it without getting hit by his straight punches, and hook. Avoiding the uppercut would be good too. Problem is, the second you step inside, you will get leaned all over, and clinched, until the ref breaks it up, and there you are again on the outside. To beat Klitschko I think he had it spot on that a guy like a prime Tyson would be the one for the job if you're picking a guy smaller the Klitschko.. or a fighter who matches Klitschko in at least reach.
For how to beat Manny Pacquiao, see the Rustin Torrecampo fight. Because it's about as relevant to how you beat Pacquiao as the Sanders fight now is to how to beat the current Wlad.
Weaker puncers would floor him, one to the cheen and he's in big big troubles. not every HW got the cheen of Peter.
I don't believe it's possible for any of the contenders in the division to beat Wlad if there seriously outsized, even if they fought like Tyson and Frazier. Wlad knows how to use his height reach advantage to perfection. There is not anybody i can see in the 6ft 6ft 4 range that can beat him. (well maybe solis, but not in his current condition.
