whether you think judges are corrupt or just plain ******ed, it is a major problem within boxing and it is stinking the place out. It seems to be happening every other week atm. What would be everyones plans to combat this problem? I've heard the idea of judges having to show there scores at different intervals in the fight but for me this doesn't work as it kills the drama at the end of a close fight. Personally, I like the idea of having more judges (perhaps 5 or 7) scoring one fight. This means if there was 1 or 2 corrupt or stupid judges it would have less impact on the final score compared to it being the best of 3 judges. Plus its easier to persuade 1 or 2 judges to fix the scores than say 3 or 4 judges. discuss!
no one boxing federation, no change its that simple having multiple federations just opens the door for corruption and exploitation of the sport on every level
There was an article titled something along the lines of: "Joe Cortez's proposition to better judging" and it was a very good idea. Basically, elevate the judges above the top rope so they can actually see everything.
Make judges accountable for their scorecards. In the case of Vera - Chavez jr or Mayweather - Canelo, the judges with the disputed scorecards should be required to give valid reasons for scoring rounds one way or the other based on the accepted scoring criteria. If the explanation is deemed not good enough the judge in question should be penalised in some way, maybe garnish their paycheck for the fight in question, if it happens again they should not be allowed to judge again. What other job would you get away with incompetency like this? If you do a substandard job you shouldn't get paid and if you are incompetent you shouldn't get work period.
unfortuantely, it will block people's view in the crowd.. good idea though. i think it might be good to have the ref to score the bout also... i know it will cause a fisaco having 4 or 5 judges + decision calling an all sorts of problems, but corruption has always been known ever since the beginning of the sport. but hey, it has always worked with 3, so figure the boxers just move on with it and leave it behind or call for a rematch if possible.
Fans at ringside should be allowed to pelt judges with their recommended daily serving (14oz) of rotten vegetables.
CJ ross got called in for her scoring and scored it round by round (supposely infront of either Keith or Brady) and they supported her scoring... :/ now shes on a break or vacation after collecting money from the mafia. I mean, a vacation from boxing period...
haha, i think this would be top 3 reason to attend a boxing match... 1.) watch for a KO 2.) hail vegetables to the judges 3.) still hail vegetables to judges even if its a stoppaged
Didn't know that, it doesn't really surprise me though unfortunately  As long as all involved keep covering for each other nothing will change.
There should be a way to vote for judges after they've left scores, and judges who generally leave bad scores shouldn't be allowed to judge big fights.
The judges should have to enter the ring and acknowledge their scorecard. They are for the most faceless anonymous people that nobody knows. Put them under the microscope and see how they like it.
the Attorney General needs to have a Department investigate a judge who was bought off by the promoter(i.e christodoulou-canelo/trout, ross-canelo/mayweather) and then fine the CEO of the promotional company(the judge in question will role over without hesistation when offered immunity) the amount of pay of the fighter in question and give a one-year jail entence. of course this will never happen as it is not a public concern.
Even after the Manny-Bradley robbery, where the fight was post judged a win for Manny, nothing happened. I am with Teddy Atlas - some of the judges are criminals. So the question is - how to catch a criminal? Set up a sting. Boxing is licensed by the state, so there is cause for the state AG to get involved. These are sophisticated criminals with big money backing and it won't be easy to gather evidence, but if you don't try, they win by default.
