I used to think GGG was playing with Munroe as well until I re-watched it. It just doesn't look like it. He's not "prolonging the beating" like he says because on the inside he throws so much less. Amateur boxing is a different animal but it's definitely worth checking out, thanks for bringing those up. Based on the Froch fight I think it's 50-50. The thing is, Dirrell lacked a kind of professional maturity under pressure. He was about as slick as they come and creative with his offense, but Froch was relentless and that made Dirrell a bit sloppy in the clinches, and the same thing happened against Abraham with the constant slips. Golovkin is a better ring cutter than both of them even though he lacks a size advantage, so I don't know if Dirrell an outbox him comfortably the 12 rounds.
Woah! No need for that. I said IMO he won't go near Ward. And Golovkin did lose to Dirrell, so it is you sir who are trolling! http://amateur-boxing.strefa.pl/Records/Golovkin_Gennadiy.html You will also note the line K2, Sanchez and Golovkins repeat that he only lost 5 amateur fights is nonsense. He lost 8 of 51 in this list alone!!
People seem to be getting caught up in my candidates a lot. That wasn't the point of the vid, it was to highlight what universal tactics should work against Golovkin.
Golovkin's going to create his favourable distance where he has the most success (even against Monroe - which is my proof as to why Golovkin fought an entertaining fight) - he also wants to see shots coming too - Golovkin's counterpunching abilities are very under-appreciated. They also conveniently forget that Golovkin uses his jab in several ways. His recent fight with Lemieux showed how he can control his opponent with the jab. The way to beat Golovkin is by having very good inside game, physically being able to control him. Exercise a dirty game. Being a better counter puncher than him on the outside. Turn Golovkin into your shots by changing angles. All of this is Andre Ward. Sergey Derevyanchenko can give him a run for his money. Sergey has a strong chin, btw. What do you think of Derevyanchenko's chances? His most recent fight: [YT]zVu6PW9tYLU[/YT] As for Dirrell of Froch fight, I think Dirrell gets stopped late in a very close fight.
The thing is he often gets hit on the inside and scuffles away, showing with his body language that he's not getting hit on purpose. Or he opens up and gets countered a bit. But I agree Golovkin's jab against Lemieux was great, it's probably his best performance. His jab alone could control many fighters and would probably be his key to defeating Canelo, and possibly making things hard for Ward. I've never seen this guy fight before but he has a subtle defense similar to Golovkin, and sets up his shots to the body and head well behind the jab. If he could press GGG non-stop it would be very interesting to watch.
Check him out, I rate Sergiy higher than Canelo in ability. Derevyanchenko was a World Bronze and the greatest fighter in WSB with a 23-1 record. He's called 'The Technician'. Perfect name for him.
