    Hello

I've read this forum a few times and there seems to be a lot of good boxing knowledge on here.

I was hoping to get some advice, there is this slick fast guy at my gym that I'm going to be sparring with, he keeps his left low but moves really fast and dips low, I saw him sparring the other night and he looks hard to hit.

Do you guys have any advice how to tag him??

Right hand over the top! ;) fake a left first if you have to. Bit hard without knowing more about this guys style, experiance compared to yours etc. what works for some wont work for others, you should be getting advice from a trainer, not boxing forums. Best of luck

    Cheers mate

the gym gets pretty busy when I go and we only got the one experienced trainer so don't always get a chance to ask questions. I've been back at training for a few months after about a 4 year lay off from the boxing gym. I've only had 4 amatuer fights and the last one was 7 years ago.

This fella is younger and fitter than me but has also only had about 5 fights but a lot more recently so is obviously more confident.

First thing first, dont show the kid any respect and dont be intimidated by his skills and bravado. Tell yourself his only human, he has weakness just like everybody else.

From there just do your own thing and dont get caught up trying to figure him out, find out what stance he is and circle out of the way of his power hand, best place to start.

Put together combimation punches, dont sit on a jab and 1 - 2's. He'll bring that left hand up once you hit him nice, they always do.

Just stick with what you do best and dont try fight his fight, if your good on the inside, back him up all arvo and dont let off.

    Hope that helps :bbb

Thanks I like that advice I'll use it, your right he will definitley counter me if I just throw out 1 jab or just 1 - 2

we do like a round robin in sparring if there is about 3 or 4 of us you do like 2 rounds jump out for 2 then go back in for 2, it's good fun.

You just missed a guy called Ashley on here mate but I know what advice he would have tendered "throw more punches ", but seriously if he is hanging the left low somehow you gotta "Tap the port " just landing a decent right cross on his bugle should stop his gallop , Welcome to ESB .

Keep walking up crowd Him dont let him fight at arms length, like dawsosj said take him out of His comfort zone have a look at the Zab Judah V Kostya Tszyu fight a few years back Judah a flashy fast fighter against a walk up tough fighter like Tszyu,Judah just could not control the fight,I suggest try that.!!!!!

+ 100 ON THIS ADVICE.. In fact i would go has far has to say , if this trainer has got you sparring , and not giving advice , LEAVE NOW **** him off and go to another gym ,

If a guy is willing to spar he needs the time put in to him , and i don't care if you have a novice or a champ the minuite they put the gloves on and step in the ring they are putting there life in the trainers hands . so if he's too busy **** HIM OFF AND GO ELSEWHERE .

Facts are if your being used for sparring and not getting taught . YOUR BEING USED.

Jones Jr keeps his left low and is slick. Watch Glen Johnsons KO of Jones, and part of the fight before that KO.

bring him onto you. he will like it if you chase him and he will pick you off. 1-2-coverup-then rip in left hook

also give him a few low shots. that will slow him down...

also go for the sternum. smart ass guys forget to cover that up.

like Ty said, feint the jab then tag him with right when opens up.

Good to ask your trainer of course, but he dosnt throw the punches for you...

i agree with this and also work on controling the centre of the ring( push him back by coming forward with straight punch combo/counter) which will make him peddle around the outside , that way when he works himself to close to corners and ropes u can capitalise when u counter or come forward or if he keeps moving a certain direction time him with the left/right hook ,
