Don't try copying fighters. (This is for all people reading) It's ok to look at how fighters set up punches but don't copy there style.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that if you are a good fighter on the inside or big puncher then you have to only fight that way. Everyone has the ability to fight on the inside, outside, counterpunch, etc. just look at Sugar Ray Robinson. He's the only fighter I would suggest to copy if it came down to it.

So pretty much don't let anyone tell you that you have to fight a certain way just because of your measurements. Yes it's better to play towards your strengths but if you like to fight a certain way and are successful at it then go ahead. Fighting against a taller guy with reach is going to be a challenge but for him as well. You have the advantage to be smaller therefore harder to hit if you use great head movement, hand speed, and other skills I talked about.

Well personally I like to imitate certain boxers while shadowboxing and then trying to use some of those moves during sparring to see if I can get comfortable with them. I don't mean like copy certain fighter 100%, I think this is dumb and I see that a lot of short people try to like like Tyson or guys who copy Mayweather etc.

I agree with you 100% about everything here, it's stupid that everyone tries to force stocky people like me to become brawlers and constantly trying to get inside. I think if you use certain boxing principles correctly you can fight in many different ways and mix it up. It also depends what your opponent is doing.

Yes most definitely. I like to refer to Dempsey vs Willard when I think of shorter punchers who used good footwork and bobbing/weaving on the outside in order to get on the inside.

I also like switching to southpaw a lot, I think this helps the footwork a lot. It's like a whole new dimension to your boxing when you use two stances. I think Cotto does it a lot too, I have to rewatch his fights

    1. Look back at the recent thread, that is what I said. That wikipedia lists him as 6'5" and Boxrec lists him as 6'1".

    2. Oh yea? Haven't seen anything new about your technique besides that lousy excuse of hitting the heavy bag and thinking your best Sunday punch is gonna get the job done.

    3. You must be just plain stupid. Last time I checked, being in college had nothing to do with fighting on the USA Boxing National circuit, nor fighting in the Sugar Bert National Qualifier or fighting at the South Broadway Club in St. Louis or at the Arthur Johnson Invitational.

Good luck in your struggle to become a boxer, internet tough guy. You'll get no more pointers from me on how awful your technique is.

edit: i'm a dumbass. i just posted this in the wrong thread. similar and for the same guy. reposting i the correct one ...

slavic fighter, its great that you've been disciplined with footwork. a lot in your situation neglect it. it will pay off. use that same discipline with the jab.

-if there's a big height difference, instead of jabbing at the face, go to the chest. use it like a blind man's stick. once you hit something then throw the right hand, leading into combinations. if you keep focused on their chest, and when/if their hands start to drop to protect where you keep hitting them, THEN start going to the head
-once you're in there, stay in there and WORK
-flip a pattern ... set it by backing up and boxing, make him come after you, and when he starts stepping up to you, counter coming in
-when you counter, double the jab while stepping hard ( instead of catch and jab, go catch-jab-jab with your head off center line)
    -master using feints
