That's actually how the IBF rankings are designed to work. To stay top 10, you have to fight guys in the top 10. If you lose to an unranked fighrer, you lose your spot almost entirely. If, for instance, number 8 fought number 6 and won, then they switch spots entirely. BUT....the people they allowed to be ranked causes their top 5, especially at welter, to be a who's who of "Who?"
I feel very strongly that better match making is the key to boxing's future success. you do not need great fighters to make great fights. You need good match making. Doubt me? Go over to You Tube and watch shot to **** McKart go to war with shot to **** Marquez! However, I believe that a meaningful, unified, ranking system is probably the only way to force the best possible match making.
EXACTLY! One of the biggest issues in boxing is that people have become so obsessed with big fighters, big money, and big cards in big places is that actual great BOXING itself has taken something of a backseat. There are ShoBox and FSN fights that are better than some PPV bouts. competitive, skilled boxing needs to be the focus from here on out.
yeah I heard a podcast the other day from the guys from Ring TV and they were giving **** to Friday Night Fights on ESPN which I think has some of the best fights on tv.
