Ive always heard of fighters being physically and menatlly fit for a fight. The physical part is given, but how does one get mentally fit? watching tapes? Having a good trainer?
By being ready to fight. If you fight, chances are you've been in a ring sparring many hundreds if not thousands of times. That will take some pressure of. When I get nervous I just remind myself that I'm well prepared and that there is no escape anyway. Sometimes you just face the music.
Just try to relax and take it easy. You don't have to over think things. Listen to some music and chill out. If you've trained hard, you have reason to be confident. Finally, take the attachment out of winning. That might rub some the wrong way, but I think it helps to take pressure off you when you go in with the mentality that you've already won. I mean, very few people even get in there, so a victory is just icing. In any competition or circumstance where I've had to perform, relaxing and having fun has always worked out better for me. Intense focus and fire has usually led me to being too tight and losing my composure when things dont go as planned.
healthy body means a healthy mind if you know deep down you have done everything possible to get yourself ready this is enough to keep me mentally right before a fight, had you done **** all then before a fight you are going to struglle mentally as you will be doubting yourself, nerves before a fight is whats make you perform too much nerves can make you burn a lot of energy, i find when i havent trained that hard my nerves are a lot worse
First and foremost, you must be fully physically prepared. This will allow you to be more confident in your technique. The body must be trained properly and systematically for a fight, as should the mind. Only problem is, most Western coaches know nothing or extremely little of what this means and takes to achieve. I HIGHLY recommend Gold Medal Mental Workout for Combat Sports by Stadion Publishing. It is a great step by step program with a book that explains how to achieve mental readiness for a fight. Also, it will carry over in your life by allowing you to be more relaxed. Many judo Olympians, tae kwon do fighters, and other athletes have used this program with amazing results. I am currently on my 3rd week and can tell you that is works great.
You may be right. Or they are not ready or knowledgeable enough to know how to face, react, and what recommendations to make based on emotions. The truth of the tale is that we all have many emotions before a fight and during one. The problem is knowing which are ones are good and which aren't. Which ones to keep and which not to. How to do this. And how and why the body and mind act a certain why before and during a fight. Knowing this will make you a superior fighter with the right physical training of course. I believe it was Joe Louis that said something like the most important aspect of a fight is not what fighters are doing but thinking.
