I have my first fight in a month and need to improve the speed of my punches. I noticed i throw very hard punches, but i need to be faster. Any dills for speed or explosiveness would be helpful. Thanks
Try and only tense your arm just before you make contact. If your punches are loose they travel faster so only tense just before impact if that makes sense.
also make sure you are getting your punch back with maxiumum speed, cuz you cant start a new punch until you finish the first one. Make sure you are not posing with them too. I would reccomend shadow boxing mainly focusing on getting the punch back to you quickly and keeping your arms loose and body relaxed. Sometimes stretching seems to help me, I don't know if thats proven though.
there is no secret to this at all, we all possess great speeds most just dont know how to tap into this Speed and distance: the shortest distance between 2 objects is a straight line, so in boxing the trick it to shorten the distance of the line the closer you are to target the shorter the distance traveled, 3' far from target will take "X" amount od time to hit target 2' far from target will take "< X" amount of time to hit target 1' far from target wll take "- < X" amount of time to hit target the closer you are the faster you are
Hey Pimp Juice - Getting trained correctly and having good genes is trick. Distancing yourself to improve your speed is a ridiculous statement in the fact that the complexity of the sport cannot be summed up by saying it is simplistically as you say.
Everyone punches hard in their own books. Instead of focusing on speed, if you cant punch fast, focus on timing, a well timed, slow punch is better than an uncoordinated quick punch. Get you trainer to work with u in timing, parrying and counters mainly, then incorporate a partner, increase intensity then use different partners to make u a machine.
