thats true rob but if the shows improve then people will continue to watch after they catch there first show spn's could do alot more they have the same **** on repeat all day why not do a little 15 minute feature on the next card at the weekend ? ****ing dont know how many times in a day you can watch the same **** recycled on spn's
All I'd have is the British, then either the area titles (northern, southern, central etc) or English, Scottish, Welsh etc. Those masters titles would be gone immediately, as well as the Commonwealth. Too many of these fringe titles mean that you either end up with fights not being made (promoters using them to keep people apart) or with seriously weak challengers getting a shot by virtue of having [insert here] title - when really they should be earning their shot by beating the remaining members of the top 10. See above. Many of these titles are the same level. Is there really that much difference between the likes of John McDermott - who holds an area title, and Derek Chisora, who is British champion? As I've said, you don't need English, Welsh, Scottish - and area belts. The masters belts are garbage as is the Commonwealth. There doesn't need to be a title for every single step up in class. The ultimate initial ambition for a British fighter should be to win the Lonsdale belt, then defend it against the best contenders.
This is what i think if there is a defined structure it makes things much easier to follow and there is a set route for advancement domestically then. If they are just used in obscurity and sporadically they have no meaning might as well be fighting for the WBF intercontinental strap
i think Chisora and McDermott was a bad example. i think your going over board. fair play get rid of the masters and inter continental Bull**** but the area titles and english, scottish titles serve a purpose. only 10% of fighters will ever be good enough to win a british title as well. what do the rest do?? theres nothing for them. it would just lead to more foreign journeyman as theres nothing for a decent lower domestic level fighter to strive towards. also this stuff only serves to satisfy existing fans of boxing, like allot the other ideas put forward in this thread. how do we get more fans that is the question.
:good Sky need to do their own British rankings and at the start of each broadcast point out where the fighters rank. That way someone who's just tuning in knows exactly what's going on and what level the fighters are at. --- Beeston...I think the Masters titles are meant for small hall shows. Some fighters aren't going to reach British level but picking up an Area title or even a Masters title can be a massive achievement. TV promoters like Warren and Maloney shouldn't be using Masters titles though.
Yep that right. Regional titles give the smaller shows and a certain calibre of fighter an outlet. It worked pretty well years ago and you used to see some superb scraps for Area titles. Whether times have changed too much with the Intercontinental type titles I don't know but if fans are drawing up a "wish list" of titles to get shut of then the Inters should be getting the bullet, not the regionals.
People need to be able to cut through the crap, as it were. How can you expect anyone to take an interest and follow the sport when there's about a million different titles. The whole thing just needs to be simplified. K - Keep I - It S - Simple S - Stupid (stupid being the boxing world as a whole) I could go a step further and say that some of the super & light weight classes need canning, but that's another debate entirely. Edit - the inter's getting the bullet goes without saying.
Did I just walk into a marketing seminar? Come on BB, you'll be telling us boxing needs to get back to "family values" next... The David Brent speak aside though, sentiment is right. Its just too difficult to follow boxing these days for the casual fan.
when is this stuff shown to the masses. when do they find out about it. only the hardcore know. Area English/Scottish/Welsh British European International (throw them a bone) World these titles only 1 per division and theres no issue.... and again explain how this gains new fans for boxing??
You only need one of these two, realistically. As I've said having titles all over the place only complicates issues. If someone is going to take an interest in boxing they need to be able to grasp it quickly - it's handy to have a fair idea of who is what, isn't it? The internationals go, obviously the European stays because it would be more valuable as a result of the internationals going..... but to be honest once you've fought one European you've fought 90% of them - I'd be headed to the States to get some variety in my opposition. As a general theme we are too title focused and need to just simplify things. Yes, assuming he has some input. But at the minute it just seems like a Gentleman's club with very little being achieved by having them all on.
TBH it doesn't really matter if we have nationals or regionals or nationals AND regionals. Just get rid the Inters and have a clear, lineal, heirachy (sp) of titles leading to being the British champion.
