Please, no punch stats - they tell you nothing about the fight and just make people go:

"He landed more pucnhes - HE WUZ ROBBED!"

Keep Darke but replace Watt with Woodhal. Clear out the pundits cupboard and replace them with:

Andy Kerr - as host
Claude Abrahms (sp) - to discuss history and the politics of the fight, as well as offer analysis
Rob McCracken - analysis, discussing the gameplan
Barry Mcguigan - recognisable, astute, informed and great at being the presenter in any features on the guys fightings (his piece with Calzaghe prior to the Lacy demolition was fantastic).

 

I agree with most of this. I'd like them to show decent undercard fights in full, and not bother so much with snoozers and complete mismatches. I'd rather see a full 10 rounds of a good fight between journeyman than 6 rounds of that and 4 of a dull fight involving one of their "prospects".

in terms of the punditry I'd remove Watt as a regular commentator and have Bunce as part of the panel instead of Nicky Piper who never says much of any worth and always looks disinterested.

 

Great points Rob. One other thing I think HAS to go is this blow by blow or round by round, whatever its called. After the fight they go through every round looking at what happened. Why the hell would we wanna watch that after watching the damn fight.

 

Plus i'd love to see Piper go. Get Bunce in there, someone who's not camera shy.

 

Sky need to **** off all the analysis and show fights.

 

That is actually a class line-up. But it will never happen. Watt gets too much stick - sure he can get on my nerves sometime, but on the whole he is very good and I think that the job of commentator is not as easy as you would think. I would have him over Darke anyday - Darke is good at the football but I am not too fussed with him commentating on the boxing.

The one major change that Sky need to do is make the promoters put on better matchups. There are seldom really good cards that have a majority of competitive matchups, in fact lucky to get one fight that is competitive in some cards.

Also, the buying in of cheap eurobums needs to stop, there is no excuses, these promoters have got good tv money and sponsorship and need to be getting more local, homebased talent on the shows.

 

They need to use Spencer Oliver more! I think he should be the 3rd commentator (like how he was talking to Smith and Watt on Friday, but over the entire fight and not just 2-3 times during rounds!).

It was good to see Jamie Moore doing a little bit for Sky the other week. Hopefully they start using him more and see how he does. Need to get rif McCrory, Watt and Piper. Does really need freshening up.

 

Sky need to make promoters put on better undercard fights and show these in full. Nothing worse on FNF than watching the main event then 2 poor undercard fights and 1 hour 30 mins of boring chit chat.

I hate watching the fat guys speak while a fight can be seen over Jonnys shoulder in the ring....shut the **** up a minute and put the cameras back down there because even a dodgy mismatch between a Latvian and a Manc is better than listening to guff.

 

Creative matchmaking is the key. Snoozefests, like Sykes-O'Hara, do the sport no favours.

 

I like Watt, he is a legend. Commentators whose phrases you can recite years afterwards are one in a million. Yes he gets things wrong time after time, but I aint after perfection, its character, delivery and personaility.

Dump Dave Clarke, Mccory and Piper. More stats, as they walk into ring, like UFC, bigger buidl up on sky sports news. But keep Watt.
