How to revamp Friday Fight Night

dump johnny nelson - he talks non-stop shite. Piper is woeful too. mccrory is ok sometimes but he far too comfortable - rarely says anything other than standard cliches. Get an articulate, opinionated panelist or three....

 

Also I know it is off topic but when they are showing HBO fights just give us the HBO stream with their commentators and analysts - it's usually much better especially during the undercard, when Smith and Watt know **** all about the two fighters.

 

I'd agree with most of that but I disagree with your comments about Ian "The Apologist" Darke. I think he's rotten.

 

Just add someone to be hated like Dunphy on RTE during a **** match i actually looked forward to seeing Dunphy lay into someone and the rest try and stick up for him.

At the minute sky is all a bit too friendly at least when Hart was there he was getting them riled up but none took centre stage to fire back.

 

They used him for Hatton v Pacquiao, where he said the same thing then.

Although on a news show earlier that day he said it was 50/50.

Hart is a bit of a **** but atleast his lines aren't scripted before the fights by sky like the rest.

My two penneth.......

1. Get rid of Adam Smith, Dave Clark, Glenn McCrory and Nicky Piper. Don't let Craig Slater anywhere near a mic when the subject is Floyd Mayweather.

2. Have Ed Robinson presenting, Jim Watt in the studio with Johnny Nelson. Ian Darke chief commentator with Jamie Moore and Spencer Oliver playing Merchant and Steward.

3. Have an extended telecast, on the red button if necessary, to give us an idea of who were are watching, rather than Adam Smith banging on about how Dewsbury is so impoverished because of some nutter who arranged to have her daughter kidknapped.

4. Show the full undercard, again on the red button, either that or at least two or three co-features from the first bell to the last.

5. Force fights - HBO get promoters to give them what they want, they run the sport effectively. Instead of just buying anything between two top ten fighters so long as there is a title. We want to see Bellew vs Cleverly, Groves vs DeGale, Hatton vs Witter, Calzaghe vs Froch/Woods - if the promoters won't play ball, simply don't buy the show.

6. No Commonwealth title fights. Sorry, the title is less than meaningless now, the British is fast going the same way.

7. Have a preview show through the week ala Boots n All, Rugby Club etc with Andy and Steve presenting (or failing that Simon Thomas) - with guests talking about their future plans and how they see their careers going in the next 12 months.

8. Increase coverage from the US and Europe with fights that are relevant to active British fighters - i.e. Bradley/Alexander's next fights for Khan (unless he sticks with ITV).

9. No adverts between rounds, and stop talking over the corners with gay comments such as ''sorry about the language''. If Dave Coldwell wants to swear, let him swear - there is a reason after all!

10. Have a fans forum on the red button after the preview show, a little phone in ala ''Your on Sky Sports'' - as Setanta used to do with the texting and emails etc.

11. Appoint someone with the stones and the budget to make all the aforementioned happen.

This is my favorite one Watt is much better in the studio, much better analyst than a blow by blow commentator.

 

I reckon RobPalmer and BeestonBrawler should commentate as they seem to know what we want.

 

The immediate post-fight show with a guest, emails, texts and calls in response to the fights that have just happened and looking forward to next week's fights is a total, 100 percent No Brainer. This idea has been on various desks of the bosses at SKY since July 1st 2009.
Whenever we have stayed on air after a fight on BBC Five Live the switchboard has collapsed under the strain!
