Lineage was not created with Wlad in my book. Vitali is at the moment and before the Wlad/Chagaev fight one of the top two Heavies. If Chagaev had won, then maybe we can have had lineage with a Chagaev/Vitali fight, but it was not meant to be. So five years on, we are still waiting to have a successor to Lennox. Lineage is just another form of alphabet crap anyway, look at the 175lbers where Erdei would struggle to get in most peoples top three, but is a long running lineage champ.
cosign! couldn't have said it better myself everything that jeff mentioned was happening at times when boxing was in the mainstream, the only thing missing is coverage and particularly terestrial coverage and quality of fighters in depth especailly the heavyweights, just ask yourself would benn, eubank, bruno, collins, mcguigan etc be household names in todays climate. what pisses me off is the constant "boxings dieing" from the media outlets especially american ones who are full of abolitionists.
i know what we need to do, is start boxing and putting it on youtube..... boxing your m8s, get a couple of friends, and have a proper proper full on fight with each other, no weapons.. just fighting thats what kimbo slice done and the **** got an MMA contract.. bare knucke fights, get people into the spirit of things, get em rowdy.... we need to get em thinking about it..... thats what we need to do people!! :think
posh guff ******* i wont get into an argument ith you baout if Wlad did create lineage. But in my eyes lineage is an excepted form. Many people said Harry Wills was better than Dempsey but Dempsey was linear champ. Its the same with erdei and Jones Jr. I use ring magazine title and lineages. Intelligent? Jeff? have i missed something :good you a joiner? you hit the nail right on the head look at every great era in boxing the 20s, 30s, 50s and 80s and they was all stacked with talent and it was very deep divisions thats what we need now. For **** sake the planets population has increased but the amount of boxers has decreased dramatically
Exactly, GPater.. all this skullduggery, duckings and unscrupulousness all existed in the sports hayday (the mob even run it at times) and it still made the mainstream, why? because of the depth of fighters particularly in the heavyweight division and coverage of it in all media outlets most importantly TV, which then translates into radio and the papers, exposure to the masses can not be over emphasized, most casual fans must have an affinity with or at least know the fighter their being asked to pay good money to watch
yeh more fihgters mean more shows and that means more people are likely to go to there local fights arnt they
yeh, and the reason i put so much importance on exposure and publicity via "free" TV is a fighter could be a clone of SRR and not draw flys because no one's seen or heard of him then you can have a extremely limited fighter have a couple fights on regular tv and become a household name.
