Now I dont know a whole lot about this subject, but it occured to me that most sports are tied to national government. For example, in the UK, football or the FA is tied to the governments' sports agency. I am sure it is similair in the USA, and the whole world. There is no way a group of people can suddenly say, 'we are forming the Major Soccer Alliance', start a league, and expect the best teams to play there. Like what happens in boxing.

It occured to me that because boxing is global, there is nothing to stop ABC's from forming and being succesful. Also there is no kind of league, to make fighters fight, and promoters can do what they like because it is a global sport. So boxing will remain a mess, right, with bull**** PPV's, ABC titles, and the best fights not occurring...

But surely promoters get their licence off the government, therefore, if a global sports organisation, such as the olympic commitee, were to make their own boxing organisation, and as they are tied to government be able to make it somehow, more official than the ABC's, and due to their ties to government, tell promoters through their licence givers they may no longer promote fighters directly, the fighters fight who the new organisation suggests, due to a fair rankings system, with no undeserved title shots etc, and the promoters only have the right to stage the event.

And obviously if the promoters support the ABC's, they lose their licence. So no ABC's, a proper organisation running boxing and all the best fight being made

    :huh

Nope in the US all major leagues are private entities without government control. Hence the rampant steroid use in the NFL without any real action against the 95 percent or so of the league that is juicing.

Boxing needs to be brought back into cities in the US and back on network television.

Boxing has had a great year and is doing just fine. Competition from MMA has given it the shot in the arm it has needed, we are seeing great fights this year.

    What?!
Thats a pretty big claim, the NFL takes steroid abuse very serious and tests regularly.

    1) Central Boxing governing Body...not all this alphabet crap...we need one champion per weight class. The amount of weights isnt the problem, its the amount of belts their are which devalues being a world champion altogether.

2)Bring championship boxing back to network television for Free...We shouldnt have had to pay to see Manuel Medina fight Johnny Tapia or JM Marquez fight Rocky Juarez. These are fights that would have been on CBS or NBC 15-20 years ago. The greed in boxing is horrible. Networks and Promoters are killing the sport.

3)Require world champions to defend there titles at least 2x's a year against top ten opposition and not these mismatches we get with these mis-mandatory's

I think you are way off. Nobody likes boxing that much as a sport, there is only one way to up it's popularity...

Fighters with big charisma. The Eubanks and Hamed's...the only time boxing is popular is when there are characters, celebrities involved.

The wider public don't particularly care for matchups between the truly best fighters. Making the best fight the best, taking away the promoters power would dmage the sports popularity. Nobody wants to see Hopkins fight a good young fighter. Holyfield fights are so much more appealing.

This is an excellent idea. I have long advocated an inter-national body, comprised of national commissions, as THE governing body of the sport, which would not only sanction bouts and rate fighters, but engage in all the activities necessary to fairly administer the sport. This would put the corrupt, parasitic alphabets right the f*ck out of business, and go a long way to "saving" the sport.

Now, if we could only bring back 15 round fights........

When you have a 45 year old so called chalengers for a heavyweight belt the sport is allready in the dumpster. McCall and Holyfeld, get these tomato cans away from the belts and let the real contenders fight.

You are 100% correct, guys like Tyson, RJJ, Hopkins have all been PPV fighters because of there personality. Yes all 3 of this fighters were great in there prime, but when was the last time a Hopkins fight was actually fun to watch, and Tyson could fight a nobody like Mcbride and still be on PPV.

The reason why Wlad is not marketable in the US is because he doesnt have a great boxing personality, people want to see trash talk and a certain rage before they go in the ring. The only heavywieght champ with a good personality is Peter, thats what makes him more marketable in america than the others.

Don't the state athletic comissions force them to?
And anyway, the NFL has thrown out players for doing it, why would they pick on some and not others?

Oh please. People dont pay good money to see personality and charisma. It would help if the fighter had a personality or was charismatic, sure, but to say that boxing is hurting because it doesn't have charismatic fighters is silly. Boxing's hurting because it is the most unorganized sport in the world.

Boxing probably won't get back on track to where it was 20 years or so ago. It'll just be a big cycle of a few people trying to get it and the big guns shooting the ideas down. There would have to be some sacrifice at first monetarily for the promoters and everyone thats making all the money, so they would never help the sport out. No one cares about the long run if they are going to be making more money looking at the days ahead rather than the years. This is the way the whole world works, not just boxing.
