I worked in a gym once that was owned by a guy that made his money running strip clubs. He thought it would help draw people to the gym if some of the dancers from the club trained there. It's all the same...whether you're sexy as hell or ugly as sin you throw the punches the same way. Every female that I ever worked with, that was there seriously, worked really hard. At that same gym, there was a women's world champion training and she sparred regularly with a top ranked amateur that was preparing to turn pro. She had 20 pounds on him but he never hit her for real. Gave her a lot of movement, worked on his defense and they both got good work.
I dunno if I would spar a girl. I just joined a new gym and its a combo fitness/boxing/mma gym. Nothing like where I came from (gritty, old, stinking fighting gym). There are a lot of women at the new gym. Probably 2/3 of the class. Most are hot, which is great motivation to get in shape! lol Seriously though, some of them have good technique and fitness. Probably would out point me right now. I've seen guys spar women before. Its always hard to watch. The guy is usually toying with her until she tags him, then he doesn't know what to do. Eventually, he decides to snap her head back a few times, then she gets hesitant about engaging for the remainder. The last time I saw something like that, the chick was with a university team visiting our gym to spar. She was about 140 and had a good athletic build. I was watching her shadow box thinking she had surprisingly good technique. Coach put her in with some street kid who you could tell didn't want to hurt her. He was in there acting like Roy Jones until she caught him with a straight right... then he started popping her pretty good. He head was snapping back each time. He was too strong and quick for it to be competitive.
I feel like this is dependent on the people sparring, but regardless... The gym I train at usually only has people coming in when there's a toughman coming up. There are only a few regulars, and I'm the only southpaw, so I'll usually spar with all the new guys once or twice. I basically do the same thing with all of them, I don't take it easy, but I don't hit near as hard as I normally would. I've had some of these guys get a lucky shot in, or sometimes theyll lose it and just swarm. If I turn around and snap their heads back theyll get hesitant to engage, and hesitant to come back to the gym. I spar the girls the same way. By the way, in martial arts, girls have done a lot more damage to me than guys. Sure, some guys will put a small bump here or there, but girls have been the ones to make my shins bloody.
Yup. It is. Here is the rest of the picture. I think Its Arturo, Mike and Joe Gatti (Arturo's brother) after one of Joe's fights. (he looks little beat up in the pic) This content is protected Mike Tysons Memorial Eulogy To Arturo Gatti August 11th, 2009 Mike Tyson knew Arturo Gatti before the young Canadian slugger reached his teenage years. The former Heavyweight champion was moved by the untimely passing of his friend to the point that he wrote and sent an official tribute Eulogy for his friend Mario Costa, which Costa read at the Memorial service held in Montreal last month .... has obtained Tysons Eulogy tribute from Mario Costa, who was involved in developing Gattis boxing career in New Jersey from his amateur days up until his sixth pro fight: I met Arturo when he was nine-years-old. He was in the Catskills with the Hilton brothers. Matthew Hilton became junior middleweight champion of the world. We never saw Arturo coming, we were always going to his brothers (Joe) fights in New Jersey. We never knew Arturo would become such a great fighter. I was always happy to see his success, to see him walk in the gym as a boy and become a great champion. I am happy to be a part of his short, exciting life. May God be with you my young friend. Mike Tyson Excerpt from Mario Costas Eulogy to Gatti at Montreal Memorial This touching, from-the-heart Eulogy composed by Mario Costa brought tears to the eyes of many attendees at the Memorial Service: It all started on June 1, 1984 in Montreal. I brought Nino Gonzalez to box Matthew Hilton. Also part of the team as a sparring partner was Joe Gatti. After the fight they all came to New Jersey at my invite. Joe introduced me to Arthur who was 13 or 14 years old. Ill never forget those eyes, like two shining stars. Hed always follow me around at the fights and say, Please take me to America when Im old enough. Finally, he came. He arrived in Jersey City with a plastic bag and some clothes and no money, a big dream, a big heart and a big smile. The dream was so big the money didnt matter. He lived at 277 Manhattan Avenue, Jersey City. He ate at the White Manna diner, trained at the Ringside and ran at the Persian Field Park. The dream was on. Probably the happiest time of his life. In his apartment, on top of his dresser, he always had his fathers picture, a lit candle and a statue of the Lady of Fatima, that I gave him. The dream was for Joe and Arthur to be champions for their father. On May 3, 1991 the dream started when Arthur was the Fighter of the Night at the amateur show of School 27. He was given his trophy and he was so proud to have his first trophy in America, displayed at the Ringside. There was also his first girlfriend Michelle, which he met at the White Manna diner. Michelle was the grand-daughter of Madeline, an employee of the diner. Ill never forget Arthur asking me for $3 so he could stop at the grocery store for soft drinks on the way up the hill, holding hands with Michelle, to Mosquito Park. Like a gentleman. With a big smile. He was in paradise. Well champ you are in Paradise now. No more pain. No more troubles. No more fights. I know you are with your father and Tito (one of his deceased friends from the Puerto Rican posse). He will always have your back. Champ, you will forever always be in my heart and in my prayers. I love you and rest in peace. Mario Costa Read more: http://www.boxinginsider.com/headlines/mike-tysons-memorial-eulogy-to-arturo-gatti/#ixzz1reG79KlA
how the **** you throw an uppercut that low and a female doesnt hit that hard to have you laying in the ring especially with protectors and finally why you didnt move ou t of the way are your reflexes that slow :hat
I train girls and must say that they are easier to train than guys, most of them don´t think they are Ali or Mayweather from start, they really listening to what you are saying. There are girls that don´t take it seriously but I don´t talk about them now. I arrange europes biggest international female boxing tournament "The Golden Girl Box Cup" and I promise you, some of those girls could really beat the crap out of you. Current Golden Girl champ, norweigean Marielle V Hansen, won the title and was so good that she was called a female Sugar Ray Leonard. So don´t think that girls can´t box, because they can. I never let guys spar with girls since I don´t think any guy should punch towards a woman, but that is just me, we have a lot of girls in our club so they have good sparring between them selfes. A normal guy would never try to hit a girl hard so they go to defensive and it would not help the girl, a guy who hit a woman hard is not welcome at our gym, I would call him an idiot and let him spar with our best guys so they could give him a lesson. I´m an old fashion man, and always said that a woman should not box, I changed my mind, 5 years ago, they should, woman vs woman, because they can and they are REAL good at it.
