How was Corrie Sanders able to tag Wlad at will?

Was it more a case of Wlad's defensive inexperience or the speed of Sanders, the last south paw he fought, Pianeta, didnt even come close to sneaking in a straight left

    Wlad was drugged! J/k
    Various reasons...
    1) Like the announcers said, Wlad wasn't even sweating, wasn't warmed up, and Sanders jumped on him when he was cold. Wlad was way over confident.
    2) Corrie Sanders was a good southpaw, with good speed for a big guy and great power.. Look at what he was able to do to Vitali for a couple rounds.
    3) Wlad's inexperience

Wlad is nothing like he used to be. He doesn't like to get hit now, but he rarely does. I'd say David Haye has faster hands than Sanders and maybe around the same power, definitely enough to knock Wlad out, but Wlad kept him at bay. It was a snoozer, but says a lot for how far Wlad's skills have come.

Wlad was more offensive then. Left himself more open and that was a mistake against sanders. Current wlad beats sanders , may he rest in peace

:deal This. Lacked the defense, only depended on his own offense to win. Manny Steward showed him his true potential.

Wlad didn't have as good footwork as he does now. He's got very deceptive footwork but if you acually pay atention you will notise that's one of the things that made him a better fighter.

It's quite sad the lack of good heavyweight fights leads everyone to talk about something which happened 10 years ago.

Sanders was a good fighter and had good power. He also had the size to match Wlad.

Even great fighters lose sometimes. That's boxing.

Wladimir's style at the time was more aggressive than it is today and Sanders' speed didn't help at all either. It's pretty much defensive inexperience and Sanders' power and speed.

his footwork was poor.he used to give up his physical advantages.and he got countered and did not recover in time and sanders finished him off..simple really

Sanders had his best day, the stars aligned for him, he was also already a feared and avoided s-paw ko artist. He schooled the younger man, it happens in boxing, and it did Wlad the world of good in the end. Wlad owes Sanders a debt of gratitude.

Wlad is a different fighter now. If you look at how he used to fight he had a wider stance with his feet further apart which made him less mobile. After he threw punches he would often not move and stay in front of his opponent and be there to be countered. These flaws in his game allowed a fast fighter like Sanders to beat him to the punch and also counter him.

Sanders had excellent speed and power and threw fast straight punches which worked very well against Wlad because when he does back away he does so in straight lines, which does not work well against a fighter who is almost as big and throws fast straight punches.

Wlad is a better fighter now. His feet are closer together giving him a higher centre of gravity making him more agile and mobile. He is now super cautious rarely throwing in combination and never trading which minimises the opportunities to counter him and untilises his height and reach better. The Steward version of Wlad would have a much better chance of beating Sanders.
