How was Corrie Sanders perceived during his times?

Maybe, maybe not. But that's why you didn't know and I did, I suppose. Just a tip, if you're going on year-end ranking when deciding whether a fighter is top 10 before a certain fight then you're likely to be inaccurate a fair few times. So, Sanders - enters top 10, loses to Tubbs- no longer top 10.

That's not a source. I never said he was consistently ranked in the top 10. In fact, my initial post didn't even mention the Ring but all 3 main alphabets which all had Corrie in the top 10. When you brought up the Ring, I decided to let you know you know he appeared in that too, asked for your source and you produced...well, what was effectively, the April issue of Ring.

I never said Sanders was ever on Lewis' radar, so not sure why you're telling me this. You said he was never top 10 before Wlad. He was, albeit briefly, due to his decent run before his first loss.

So he was ranked for one month or so briefly throughout a whole decade ? I gave you the end of the year rankings to show Sanders was never really that well known, nor was he highly rated throughout decade until beating Wladimir that was my point.

Yes it's not absolutely 100 percent accurate but it does show a pretty clear picture of who were the top Heavyweights during that period.

When looking at the rankings i always go by the Ring Magazine ratings TBH, my point was and you said it yourself "Sanders was never consistently ranked in the top 10". If you want to get technical about it yes i was wrong about Sanders "briefly being ranked for a month or so in the top 10 in 1994" but realistically he was never considered one of the top 10 Heavyweights of the 90s lets be honest.

It's not directed at you per se it's directed at the people who think Lewis avoided Sanders, i've been seeing this narrative for awhile and it simply isn't true. My point was is that Sanders wasn't really that well known or highly ranked until he beat Wladimir hence he was never on Lewis's radar.

Like we're debating over whether a fighter was ranked for a month in Ring Magazine top 10 for a whole decade ? i don't know what else to say ? i guess you proved me wrong ? i doesn't really see that it matters in grand scheme of things ? my point still stands it's just a nit pick that's not worth either of our time honestly.

Well you said you were through with this debate, which was fine, and I didn't reply. So stop editing it, which you've now done a few times.

I do that often with my posts when i see i've made spelling errors or forgot to say something, i type very fast sometimes too fast which is a bad habit of mine. Being in my early 20s and full of beans i'm guilty of that.

I didn't realise you were that old to be honest. I thought you were still a lad.

Maybe you just remind me of an old poster called Manassa Mauler, who was a young lad (kinda 18ish I think) when I used enjoy a good spar with him back in the day...which is not far off 20 years ago come to think of it. :D

Interestingly, Bert Cooper stopped HW #6 Orlin Norris, so he had to ranked somewhere in the top-10 after that win. But later that year he lost to Mercer and Bowe and thus lost his top-10 ranking in the December rankings.

20 years ago damn ? and yeah i do enjoy our little back and forths, in all honesty mate you put in my place a little bit with rankings today. But honestly i don't mind it as long you do it in a respectful manner. And to be honest it gave me something to ponder for next time whenever i want to bring up the rankings.

    It's all a learning process.

Good example and that was my point earlier- emphasising the danger of using 'December' ratings as a yardstick for what happened within that 12-month period (which clearly neglects a fighter who's crashed into the top 10 as their big win happened in Q1/Q2 of a given year and then their big defeat vs a top 10 guy in Q3/Q4).

Another good 1990 example, if someone uses the end of year rankings from that year, they may assume that James Toney hadn't appeared in the top 10 before the Nunn fight, which isn't true, as he entered the top 10 based on his win vs Merqui Sosa- early January 91.

Ha ha, a real Leo Wanker move that was. :D

And yes, the appreciation began about 10 years ago- I could no longer not appreciate a guy retaining the title at aged 48 (vs Cloud). Great stuff.
