How was Corrie Sanders perceived during his times?

Sanders was a fringe contender-turned semi-retiree, with a solid golf handicap who, out of the blue, became a Wlad Krusher.

Not a great deal was being written about him prior to the Wlad win, as far as I can recall.

In my opinion, Sanders had had great potential but, for whatever reason, seemed to drift out of the sport and couldn't sustain a run that might have propelled him to a serious contender status.

The Wlad fight was a bit of fortuitous extra cash and a no-lose gamble that happened to pay off. But he was 37 by then.

Sanders was a top man, though - by all accounts.

Well said this part man. I’m a father of 3 and also now have two grandchildren, as a man and a father I would be willing to give my life for them. It was an extremely sad way for Sanders to pass but his daughter will always know her daddy gave his life for hers to continue, that tells you all you need to know about him as a man and a human.

As others have said, he was a guy that was crushing journeymen and got KOd by Nate Tubbs, then 11 years into his career he fights Rahman and then he's kind of a what if. But, for whatever reason, he wasn't getting shots before that Rahman fight. Needed to sign with a big promoter.

Anyway, the Tubbs fight derailed him and whenever his name was brought up (prior to Rahman) it was always "yea this guy can hit, but he hasn't beaten anyone and Nate Tubbs stopped him". This during a time when heavyweights fought each other more often than they do today.

Hopefully you don't pretend it was a more of knockdown than Lewis vs Akinwande.

Sanders was not hurt or stunned.

Solid post, it was a real shock to see him beat Wlad. I remember watching like whose this fat guy theyre bringing out, he has no chance. Then minutes later Wlad is all over the ring

He rocked Vitali big time in the first round and accounted himself pretty well against Vitali who was at his peak, its a shame he showed up heavier and softer. The lighter seemingly better prepared version versus Wlad would have been an interesting match up for some of the top guys of that time

The last time I heard about Rahman he was selling real estate in Las Vegas. I don't know if he's still at it.

Well my impression of him was he was not serious about boxing but he clearly had all the tools....he was the classic most dangerous guy because if he was in the mood he could wreck the division but if not he was still a tough chore for any ranked fighter....I had heard he preferred golfing and other activities

You know who kind of reminds me of him in that the way they throw that straight lefthand ? Adonis Stevenson.
Both threw it with alot of speed and velocity and when it landed look out.
