I voted average....but it was less bad than I expected.

That's what I think of Cortez at this point in time.

If you think he was bad a couple days ago, watch him almost let Paul Williams kill Santos Pakau.

I voted average too. Hatton fans are lucky it wasn't Smoger. He would've let Ricky get killed before he stopped it.

    Thanks for the sig EB!

I always thought Hatton would lose anyway but Cortez was a significant factor for how the fight turned out and that's always a bad thing. A good ref is a ref you barely notice not one who makes the fighter fight the fight he wants to see.

and btw MacManJr., did you know that you don't really have to have 5,5 MB animated gifs in your signature?

Disgraceful. Not because he was horrendous, but because this was a Mega Fight and boxing shouldn't have average Refs over Mega fights.

He got involved too much. People don't like that! What happened to, "fight your way out of the clinch".

Cortez has sucked as of late. He got really popular and it got to his head. He wants to be part of the fight all the time now.

I like a ref that lets Boxers solve their own problems.

Imagine how difficult it must be to ref a Hatton fight, though.

We can say what we want, but it must suck trying to keep an actual fight going with all that mauling. If he hadn't of stepped in so much, others might be saying he didn't do enough and allowed too much hugging.

As far as the point deduction goes- Hatton's punch aimed at the back of PBF's head was just too blatant. PBF had been turned around and was through the ropes for a couple seconds before Hatton decided to go ahead and throw a punch. I was surprised he got an automatic point deduction, and I was also surprised that Hatton would do something so blatant.

He ruined both mans attempts at putting some great early rounds together for a major fight..... He was breaking the fighters before they even clinched. I think it happens from time to time..

Mayweather and Hatton fought a solid fight but it could have been more memorable if they sorted out the early rounds by trading on the inside, something they tried to do early.. With no help from an interfering referee.

Exactly. Joe went in there knowing he was going to make it a mission to not let Hatton infight. At times he didn't even let hatton get in and at times he would accuse Hatton of clinching when it was Mayweather.

I thought only a handful of times, was he over-eager to break the fighters.
Other times Mayweather clinched, so he broke them up without the need for wasting 10 seconds whilst the fighters wrestle.

I thought Cortez gave a good performance, and allowed us to see a boxing watch rather than WWE.

Regardless, and without baring on the outcome Cortez was poor.

so why go through all the effort of making a poll about it..plus didn't see you make a poll about Dave Vince McMahon guest referee" Parris after his diabolical performance at the Kotsa Tyzu fight

because we are in a boxing forum where general issues about boxing are discussed idiot. I know it may seem odd to you because generally your posts are not boxing related, and are attacks on posts other people have typed, or just general bashing on anyone you deem to carry a different opinion to you.
