I'm not sure if that was directed at me, but I don't have him as some kind of head to head monster, I just said I rate him more highly than most do in this regard.

It wasn't even remotely directed at you.

    Yes.
Looking at the Witherspoon fight....Frank would go berserk with rabbit punches every time there was a clunch instigated by Tim rather than accepting the silent contract that in that heavyweight era clinches were used to rest and catch a breathe.....Tubbs did it with Witherspoon...but Frank fought very intensely. He constantly forced the pace when he didn't always need to.....his chin was the only problem with that strategy...Lewis,Smith and Witherspoon as well as Tyson caught him with a sudden thunderbolt and it was all over.

Frank was a very likeable character and very determined.

I'd agreed he was held back somewhat early in his career.

In the 1980s he was probably British sports most beloved character...given the rich competition...Ian Botham....davis cup golfers...footballers,snooker players and athletes.

When he won the WBC belt it was a joyous occasion in Britain.

    Nice, hard working, decent guy.

But he is also proof of how the Alphabet Era diluted the value of belts. If somebody hanged around long enough, eventually some belt would come his way.

Dont get me wrong; I liked Bruno a lot; but in better boxing eras he would have been a fringe contender.

The 90s was a decent era man, surely?

He was the road warrior. And lots of folks--like me--thought Frank simply had to have the homecrowd on his side in his big matchups. But Frank taking his act on the road? Against a premier fighter?

In fairness to Frank Bruno he has never aggrandised his achievements like a Chris Eubank Snr a early WBOchampion does habitually.
