This is horse****. Joe only gave beatings to Ali and was stopped by his trainer after beating hell out of Ali also. Foreman was exhausted. He got beat but did not take a beating. Yu r a revisionist.
Why am I lying ? Liston could have gotten on the bum of the month tour and get win after win.................a year after the second Clay fight he could have fought anywhere anytime against anybody within reason............he talked the talk but never walked the walk......for this so called toughest M'fer that has ever lived he sure made almost zero noise to get to the top again, so again a perpetual victim of circumstances aka blaming his own misery on others. Lets talk money.............you as a promoter put it all on the line for a Heavyweight championship fight......would you sign up a guy who quit twice in his signature fights and did jack shid to get back into contention? So here we have the perpetual victim again.....evil forces prevented the Ugly Bear to make it in this world.
This is imo the general held view of liston back then. Before my time, but after destroying Patterson twice, it seemed like no one was beating him. He was a monster! Similar to Foreman and Tyson, the view was he'd reign easily for years.
Immediately after the first Ali-Liston bout: "Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano or Jersey Joe Walcott could have licked them both (Ali and Liston) on successive nights" Source: https://news.google.com/newspapers?...AAIBAJ&sjid=vvQFAAAAIBAJ&pg=636,4311945&hl=en
Joe Louis was revered as the Man! The perfect fighting machine. When Sonny cleaned out the division and dusted off Patterson eyebrows were raised. The thought was raised..is this guy another Joe Louis? Could he be better? That bar was set pretty high and Liston had fans attention. Of course nothing with Sonny Liston is simple or as it seems. Fascinating person and story.
It was close. Some writers had it a draw. Ali had won the last 3 rounds big. Frazier won about every round from. The 5th to the 11th.
