He seems to be one of the stranger characters in boxing. I know he wasn’t a nice guy outside the ring and according to atlas he was also stubborn and hot headed, but how was he portrayed by public? Was he seen as something completely different than who he actually was?

Never had his heart in the sport, wanted to give up the heavyweight title and become a police officer at one point, I don`t think he respected the sport of boxing at all.

He wasn’t charismatic...most people I knew were happy that Foreman knocked him out

Riddick Bowe was more popular than Moorer

Fired and kicked out of Freddie s gym by Pac and Freddie for just being a total (word for male appendage) to everyone to fulfill a sadistic need to be an *******.

As naturally talented as he was he seemed to hate being a fighter. I really think he could have been so much better than he was which is crazy considering he was had an excellent career. I really think he would have blown out any lightheavyweight or Cruiserweight in his era. Had he stayed away from Foreman and continued to box he would have one via UD and probably be in the hall of fame.

I thought the media were a little unfair with him he didn't have a personality that connected with fans and following Tyson who was massively popular and Holyfield who was well liked Moorer was always gonna have a rough deal. The British media didn't take to Lennox until the tail end of his career.

I know a lot of people talk about how he's not a nice guy but does anyone have any stories?

Become a police officer? Didn’t he knock out a cop?

Yep and that is why he couldn't be a cop. He was a bail bondsmen for awhile in Florida. I saw an online interview with him about a year ago and he seemed to be doing ok health wise but he did mention that just about all of his money earned in the ring was gone. He was pretty critical about today's heavyweights especially Wilder from what I recall.

He was just very good at boxing and that was his way out. But he never loved it.
He also was a pretty good football player as well.
Had ALOT of guns and loved shooting them.
He was provoked by the cop but he shouldn't have done what he did.

I agree at heavyweight. But at lightheavyweight in his era the other top guys were Hill and Maske. He could handle their power.

He did get knocked down a lot at heavyweight but only stayed down against two of the biggest punchers ever in Foreman and Tua. No shame in that. I still have him behind Lewis, Holyfield and Bowe in his era at heavyweight but at his best he was pretty good. At his worst years was lazy and inconsistent but he always had heart and he proved it time and time and time again.

From my experience with Moorer when I used to visit Wildcard with my roommate, who was one of PAC’s sparring partners at the time is that he seemed almost bipolar, since one day he’d be in a great mood and would have the gym running like clockwork, and would interact with the fighters and visitors, but other days the smallest thing would make him go off, which wasn’t pretty.

I remember hm cussing out some lady and her son at Wildcard for asking him to autograph a picture of him and George Foreman.

That does sound like the symptoms of bipolar. Hot and cold high and low emotions, irritable, and going off over minor things.

To be fair, it is kind of disrespectful to ask a fighter to sign a photo of them in a fight where they got brutally knocked out. I wouldn't do it in front of him, but I'd be laughing my ass off if I witnessed that.
