That's a silly comparison fir several reasons. First jeffries would have been past his prime whether he was active or not. Period. Neither example a. or example b. is optimal so what's the point comparing. Its like saying would you rather compete in the olympics in the 100 yrd dash using a wheelchair or a wheelchair with a flat tire... Secondly, football is a team sport where you have an entire season and several games to shine AFTER pre season training. Boxing is a one man sport where you get one single night to have your superbowl and if you aren't 110% you better hope the guy across from you isn't either.

 

I am not maintaining that Jeffries would have beaten Johnson had he been in his prime. but this nonsense about him being in top form or even remotely close to his best, just because he shed some weight and had good looking biceps at 35 isn't even conversation worthy. I have confidence that people who post on boxing forums have enough conceptual understanding of the sport to at least recognize that being off for 6 years and returning in one's mid thirties does not equal prime.......

Even if you don't make Jeffries into the bad guy, it is still a morality tale. If Jeffries is shot, it devalues the tale for some people.
