Haters think the name "klitschko" will go away when the brothers retire, but its just wishful thinking or complete stupidity.:deal The Klitschko's legacy is set in stone already....The name will never go away.:deal
To be a great fighter, you have to beat a great fighter. He hasn't even been in the ring with one. He'll retire as a scalping victim of Deontay Wilder. Wlad's scalp as a notch on Wilder's belt will be his lasting legacy.
Man, Trevor Berbick was not a technician but Bonecrusher Smith was intimidating not only b'cause of his eyes and sight, he knocked out Bruno in the UK justlikethat. Pinklon Thomas would have had outjabbed and outpunched any of today's Hwts that night when Tucker beat Douglas and not to mention Tucker who was a knockout machine himself and about the size of today's superheavyweights. Tubbs seemed out of shape but tried to go toe to toe with Tyson in Japan and Carl Williams gave plenty of problems with his jab and right hand to Larry Holmes who at that age would have beat most of today's HWTs. Michael Spinks was on his very best and was a great LHWT when he took on Tyson but the same thing that happened to other great fighters such as Norris against Jackson or Jackson against McClelland happened, even more so at HWT and Douglas of Tokyo, Japan, man , I am not gonna even comment on that or compare with. Finally, the Holyfield who beat Tyson would win against both Klitschkos and Lewis TKoed Vitali or didn't he, no matter what?
His opposition was neither weak nor stellar.. I'd say that it falls in the median end of the spectrum... He did not beat the talented line-up of opponents that Ali had in the 70's, but nor did he fight the poor percession of men who were around in the 30's... His comp was on par with that of Wlad Klitschko's and Larry Holmes'..
I think longevity at the top can sometimes compensate for the lack of a great win.. Otherwise, James Douglas would be rated over wlad.
It was not weaker than todays that for sure, i dont think no one would beat Michael Spinks apart from K brothers!
Are you aware that he never face second best or best fighter in his time?? I know it is bit unlucky that its his brother, they will not fight i respect that but fighter that dominates relatively just as he does and Wlad never faced him, and never faced ATG while Vitali have fought ATG and showed he can handle that, Wlad never fought anyone as good as old Lewis!!!
So you are holding Wlad responsible for not facing Lewis even though it was Lewis who hid in the retirement after getting the beating from Vitali?
I'm saying bad luck that his brother is by far second best or best fighter and he will not face him, and you are a moron if you think Wlad has any chance against Lewis with Steward in Lennox corner, pre Steward Wlad has no chance against even old Lennox!!! And Lennox retired 2003 year when Wlad was KNOCKED OUT by Sanders and you honestly think that Wlad could defeat Lennox :rofl YDKSAB!!!
Larry Holes beat very good opponents to,like Norton,Shavers,Mike Weaver,Leon Spinks,Gerry Cooney,James Smith,Witherspoon and MUHAMMAD ALI
It was solidly respectable. Certainly, there have been dominant champs who fought in overall weaker eras. It's really the way he obliterated the solidly respectable opposition that was the impressive part. The irony is that, as Ironchamp said, the ease at which he beat some guys has caused some of these wins to be badly underrated today.
Wlad will have surpassed Louis title defense record, be happily retired, long before Wilder ever fights a top 50 HW.
Tyson's opposition overall was not weak, but his losses to Holyfield and Lewis prevent him from being considered a top ten all-time heavyweight in my opinion. I remember in the early '90s when Holyfield was the No. 1 contender in the WBA, WBC, and the IBF. Tyson and Don King knew how good Holyfield was and giving him a title shot was delayed until public opinion would not allow it any longer. Unfortunately, Tyson's incarceration caused it to be delayed a few years more. After getting out of prison, his skills and motivation were not the same, but he was still good enough to be a champion again.
