How will Arum & Sulaiman go around Chavez' mandatory bout vs Champ Emeritus Martinez?

As Champion Emeritus Sergio Martinez has the right to fight regular champ Chavez Jr. and Maravilla also has Sulaiman's word he'd get a direct opportunity to get his title back that was shamefully stripped off him despite being active and fighting top competition. Martinez is hurt that after promoting the green belt in Mexico he got treated like crap in return and simply wants the title back he's entitled to and worked for by kicking Kelly Pavlik's ass.

By rules and Sulaiman's word there is absolutely no way for Chavez Jr. to avoid this mandatory fight, but I wonder what's your opinion, how will Sulaiman and Bob Arum avoid Chavez to face Sergio?

They will just say he's not a mandatory and that is it.

Chavez Jr. can fight his "other" mandatory challenger, Marco Antonio Rubio.

Rubio is also a Top Rank (or has ties with Top Rank) boxer I guess.

I imagine they'll just keep jerking him around by perpetually promising Chavez "after one more fight." This already sounds like what's happening:
They could also use Rubio to try to delay any Martinez fight. First, since both guys are technically mandatories, the WBC could force the two to fight each other before either is given a shot at Chavez. Or they could let Chavez fight Rubio first and then in the event that he wins give him another optional title defense so he doesn't have to face two mandatories back to back.

These are just some hypothetical ways the WBC could further screw Martinez over, but with a group of people with such a long proud legacy of pissing on deserving fighters, I'm sure we might see even more creative solutions to the Martinez problem. One can always expect to see innovations in scumbaggery wherever Sulaiman is involved.

They cannot do that. At least not by WBC Official Rules. But rules mean little these days, so you might be right.

IMO they'll wait until Martinez signs for another fight and use it against him, like "he never really wanted to fight for our belt" and stip him. Which of course by rules cannot be done, Emeritus is a lifetime title. Maybe they'll make an exception like "the 160lbs Emeritus title, whoever might hold it, is not a lifetime title and can be stripped" or "Champion Emeritus at 160lbs, whoever it might be, cannot fight the Regular Champion, whoever it might be, if he picked up the title beating an Interim Champion." Also, I wouldn't rule out and ethical decision following a Martinez statement of Chavez ducking him: "The WBC Board of Governors unanimously voted to strip Mr. Martinez of his emeritus title for unsportsmanlike conduct and giving the sport a bad example."

    There's nothing in the WBC rulebook that states that the Emeritus Champion automatically gets a title shot. Here's what the rules say about it;

"Emeritus Champion-In its discretion, the WBC may designate and recognize, upon a 2/3 vote of the Board of Governors, one or more WBC Emeritus Champion of the world in each weight category. Such recognition is for life and will only be bestowed upon a present or past WBC
World Champion of extraordinary prestige, reputation, stature, and everlasting legacy in the sport.

A WBC Emeritus Champion is free to display and exhibit his special belt in any social ceremony or sports event. The WBC Emeritus Champion recognition is the highest of honors granted by the WBC to any boxer, and cannot be ceded to anyone inside or outside the ring."

The "Any Mexican over rules Mandatory" rule might come into effect as well.

BigReg: I'm pretty sure Vitali Klitschko exercised that very rule to fight Sam Peter.

Rubio's also trying to force his shot at Chavez, but if Uncle Bob pays them enough I'm sure the WBC will bend the rules for him.

Who was Martinez mandatory after he won the WBC title?
(For that matter who was Martinez supposed mandatory after he won the WBO title?)

Did Sergio fight them? Just wondering...

He would have fought Zbik but HBO turned it down so it would have been off TV or on some shitty PPV somewhere, or he might have had to go to Germany. He was stripped of the WBO because he still had the WBC title at 154 and that violated some rule that they'd probably made up.

    :good THX.
I figure the WBC was kinda nice to Sergio granting him a title shot @ MW against Pavlik coming into the fight with a Draw & a loss back to back in a weight he had never fought in before.
