It took Ward 7 rounds of landing consistent hard jabs to the body and beltline, and even then, he never went down from a body shot. What the **** are you talking about "folding"? So if Canelo loses a few rounds, as in, not landing to the body, when is he going to finally get started? 4th or 5th, he'll need to hurry.... because Canelo starts gassing in the 6th. And that's at 160, I can't imagine how quickly he'll gas carrying around 25 extra pounds.
When has Kovalev ever folded from body blows? If you are referring to Ward then it was the right hand that led to his downfall, plus multiple low blows.
All of the above has been taken cared of by Golden Fishnet before the the contract was signed. Kovalev is just cashing out.
Dealing with it is going to put a major drain on his stamina and good stamina is not one of his strengths. Kovalev should do nothing but spear jabs into his gut , chest , neck and head for the first 4-5 rounds , then shoot the right hand when he becomes flat footed like he always does. Good chin or not , he can't withstand power punches from Krusher. This fight is all wrong for Canelo in every way possible on paper. He's gambling that Kovalev is past it but its a big gamble. Tunde and Yarde thought he was there for the taking as well. Very intriguing fight
I agree with the guys saying Canelo has to get inside. He's bargaining that he is quicker and tougher than Kovalev, and either countering over his jab or following his jab back into short range and unloading on the body. I think he will have problems with either. Kovalev has a very long jab the way he throws it and trying to counter it may not be easy. Then the question arises: what happens if Canelo fluffs it and has to eat Kova's big straight right? Kovalev has a typical EE style which seems deceptively simple. But its actually hard to deal with as a smaller fighter because just like GGG he uses his feet to create distance and keep the other guy on the end of his jab. Canelo wasn't able to solve Golovkin's jab and Kovalev's is arguably even better. At close range Canelo has the advantage, but, even here its not cut and dried. Rewatch the Ward fights. People seem to forget that Kovalev landed plenty on Ward close up and there's no reason to think he won't do the same again. Canelo will have to work Kova's body hard and be prepared to slip or smother the counterfire. He might be able to do it. Canelo is P4P tougher than SK, but Kova has a lot of size on him. This could get interesting later on because both these guys gas mid fight. It remains to be seen whether the extra weight solves Canelo's tank or not. If Canelo's tank is much better then SK could have problems.
Of course but would he still be faster than Kovalev. That’s why I said the speed is the biggest factor in my opinion. If he can land consistently on Canelo without getting countered then it’s game on.
The ward fight was 2 years ago....go back and rewatch Kovelev's last fight from a month ago....your boy Yarde was losing every round but all of a sudden decided to work the body around the 7th round, and the second he did kovalev was in full on retreat mode....I don't know why Yarde abandoned the body attack after having such success with it....rookie mistake i supppose
Your boy? No, Kovalev's my boy. Get it straight. I can't stand Yarde. He abandoned it, because Kovalev went back to the jab and made him pay for it in the next round. As far as Yarde goes.... Here's Callum Smith vs. Nemespati. Long drawn out 6 round sparring session. This content is protected Here's Anthony Yarde vs. Nemespati. Gruesome punishing 3 round beatdown. This content is protected Not saying he's as skilled as Callum, but he's clearly far more heavy handed. Callum stopped Rocky in one, Canelo took him out in three. Canelo's power is not comparable to Yarde's.
I think you forgot to mention that Canelo stopped VADA testing months before Kovalev fight so he'll come roided up to the eye balls.
