I'm a fan of Cotto's but I really hope that he doesn't stick around long at 154. He was a short welterweight who was at a reach disadvantage in almost every fight there. Also, I don't think he'll have respectable power at 154. Do you guys think I'm wrong here?
I hope he doesn't stick around BOXING any longer...I had a bad feeling about the Pacquiao fight and I'm almost certain he'll lose against Foreman.
I'm not sure what to think. The thing I find weird is that he gets dominated in a title fight at 147 and his reward is a title fight at 154? All I know is that I'll be rooting for him.
I'm worried about Foreman to be honest. When I heard this fight was happening...immediately I thought Cotto will have too much for him even though he is moving up in weight. But then I heard things from the Cotto camp like, he's fell out of love with the sport...the last 2 years he hasn't had any motivation, (well along those lines anyway). I could see Foreman upsetting him here...but I don't want to see that. I want to see Cotto pick up a big win and move back down to 147lbs...like you said, I think 154lbs is too high for him. I can see Cotto retiring if he loses.
As a Cotto fan, I hope he wins the Foreman fight and then bails out of the division and returns to 147 ASAP and never returns to jr. middlweight. There's just no way he fairs well at that weight.
He will be fine. Both guys who troubled him were punchers. I think he outboxes and slowly breaks Foreman down. He outjabs him too despite the reach disadvantage.
I don't think he was short for welterweight or small for welterweight. I figure him normal for WW, whereas there were some big welterweights like Paul and Margo and Clottey in his time. I figure he loses to Foreman due to Foreman's size and style and maybe scores a fight with Berto, depending on how bad he looks. I read the same quote about him falling out of love with boxing also but I can't remember where.
Interesting. If I'm recalling correctly most of the tale of the tape I read on him he was at a height and reach disadvantage in almost every single one of his WW fights(including Gomez and Jennings), combined with him hunching over made him a little smaller. I also remember being surprised when the tale of the tape came in on him against Pacquiao they were almost dead even. From a bulk perspective he looks freaking big though.
Why? Mosley did OK at 154, had he not run into Wink, he would've had a long reign. Cotto won't do too bad, I'm sure he can take Spink's belt off of him while he is there.
He will do worse than at 147. 147 was worse than 140 in my opinion. He is not getting any faster as he gets heavier. He is not really much bigger either. He needs physical advantages to break down his opponents and those advantages are not there against the bigger guys.
