Cotto won't be able to land anything effective ... he's going to look like Gatti - Chavez - and Hatton ...

Come on Fitz, you have to offer more insight than that. If you're going to say PBF is going to win, then take the time and offer a lucid argument. Dont just say PBF is going to win easily b/c he is so fast, etc.....

    PBF IS NOT UNTOUCHABLE.

Neither is Cotto and Cotto doesn't hold the key to beat PBF ... 80% mental - 20% physical ... the game isn't about physical attributes ... he can't beat Floyd in a chess game ... he can't match wits with Floyd ... he can't outbox Floyd and he's damn sure not going to overwhelm a defensive minded boxer.

When it turns into a thinking mans game and rapid fire adjustments (not punches) are going to confuse Cotto ... Floyd will not let Cotto get into a rhythm ... he will not let Cotto get off anything effective ... he will not let Cotto overwhelm him.

Like I said and i'm going to keep on saying ... Floyd doesn't depend on physical attributes more than his quick thinking in the ring ... thats one asset that Floyd has that Cotto can't touch.

What about those pin point pot shots to the jaw ... Cotto's jaw is suspect ... no matter he brings to the table that will always be in question.

Cotto will lead and will get countered all night ...

Floyd KO 8 Cotto ... still undefeated ... still p4p champion of the world ... and new unified WW champion of the world

I remember reading this analysis at the time and being a little surprised.

Despite being a Cotto fan and not caring much for Floyd, I would respectfully disagree.

I scored the Mosley-Cotto fight a draw, and while I'm not griping about the decision , it was a very close fight. Floyd does many of the Mosley things better than Mosley at this point. He's faster of hand or foot than Miguel.

I see Cotto doing well early and then Floyd taking over.
(This might lead to a Cotto low blow and a possible Unca Roja entry into the ring, causing massive confusion, controversy or DQ? But I digress...)

Cotto HAS the tools to beat Floyd and he might land a huge bodyshot and turn the tide, but I believe the accuracy of Floyd's punches later on would be the difference.

Referring back to stamina, I'm not sold on Cotto's edge there. Mosley was in better condition late in the fight than was Cotto, and Floyd is probably better conditioned than either one.

I wish this fight would happen. The notion that Cotto is undeserving is ludicrous beyond retort. I would be cheering for Cotto.

But if I was betting hard-earned $$$$, they would have to go on Floyd.

Landing a right hand 3-4 times a round doesn't win rounds my friend. I am not worried at all about Floyd Mayweather landing 3 or 4 counter right hands per round on Cotto, That **** won't win rounds. Did it work for Mosley? It didn't work for Hopkins when he tried to only land a counter right hand for 12 rounds against Calzaghe.

Cotto is a good enough fighter to not get suckered into those lunging right hands and Floyd's "check hooks". It will take more than that to take Cotto, It will take at least some kind of sporadic pressure from Floyd every round as well as a counter right hand or two to take rounds from someone throwing as many punches as Cotto. AKA Floyd has to FIGHT to beat Cotto, he won't win by landing under 10 punches per round.

Its easy to say that pressure will beat Floyd but thats been the game plan of all fighters since he started this unbeliveable run ...

Its a thinking mans game that Cotto can't deal with ... its the experience that Cotto can't deal with ... its the speed and accurracy that Cotto can't deal with.

Cotto doesn't possess the best jab in the world ... he's a one handed fighter and will be forced to use his right hand - just like DLH was ... and you see the outcome to that fight.

Cotto doesn't have the chin of DLH and if he gets Floyd on the ropes (bait and counter) then he's going to get knocked out by one of those pin point accurrate straight right hands - that Floyd throws from many different angles.

ok.......you all i guess give blueprints on how Cotto should fight right...and there good analysis but....Cotto will not be in with no damn amateur.....there are several reasons why he losess this fight one being his defense is not tight at all....well it just so happens he is facing the most accurate fighter today period and he is the most accurate by a good margin.

You keep wanting to suggest that jab but he doesnt have the reach of a Cas or ODLH and in fact Floyd has a 5in. advantage. This doesnt seem like much but when combined with the speed and reflexes of Floyd it expands those gaps your boy has in his D.

Now on the ropes you guys say unleash combos....please people he better be very accurate and weary because thats where Floyd unleashes nasty uppercuts and sneaky decisesive punches hell he buckled ODLH legs while on the ropes with a sneaky punch. So all that combo stuff opening up on Floyd with his chin being so suspect....:nono ...makes it very dangerous for your boy. On those ropes Cotto is going to eat many uppercuts if he takes this approach.

Now...as good as Cotto is...and he is very good.....i dont believe he can yet outthink Floyd in that ring.....versatitlity....you see in the middle of the ring those body punches are a lot harder to land people say Floyd runs but its not that....he regulary stands his ground IN THE MIDDLE. He avoids traps which i guess some of you rather a fighter just fall for them instead or getting posisition in the middle of the ring where your advantages damn near double because i dont care how quick you think Cotto is...he is not the quicker of the two by a landslide.

Again the two fighters who gave floyd trouble were taller and longer than Cotto.....it is a fact that when matched with a fighter who is not bigger than him Floyd is a lot more aggressive.

The most important is Plans don't work with Floyd the fighter needs to be able to adjust as fast as he can and have the necessary tools to do so.....the whole spectrum.....come prepared yes but in that ring plans usualy hit the fan and we know Floyd adapts in mid fight not end of rounds....im not sure Cotto is equipped to adapt to Floyd as fast as Floyd can adapt to him.

This is just some objectivity when making your analysis and dont get me wrong Cotto's no slouch....but somebody said a 8-4 UD:patsch for Cotto....i doubt that very seriously....i can see SD as Cotto has vastly improved...however a Floyd fight is not like Judah or Mosley.....its a whole nother beast.

    great fight if it happens

Analyze the Cotto v Mosley fight correctly and you'll realize that Cotto has no real hope of beating Mayweather.

    1. He is too slow. Many people for whatever reason fail to realize, but Cotto is a slower puncher then Ricky Hatton. Hattons punches come in quick flashes, that are hard to discern because he throws that at many angles. Now Cotto is the better boxer, is true, but this point is null in void because nobody is outboxing Mayweather. If you watch the Mosley fight, you will notice Cotto throws alot of round looping shots that landed only because Mosley had clearly lost a step.

    2. Poor defense. Cotto has been floored more then any top P4P fighter has currently against B/C level opposition. Even against Gomez he was caught quite flush a few times, but luckily enough Gomez had no power to actually do any harm to Cotto. He was rocked against Judah, and he was hit with a shot by Mosley that sent him reeling into the ropes. My personal theory is that he tries to box far to much, instead of being the brawler body banger that he should be 90% of the time. Mayweather will exploit his lack of defense like noone has ever before, Mayweathr is the most precise puncher in the game today, he will find openings, and openings is what Cotto's got.

    3. Lack of Power. Many will say "oh no, you are wrong, Cotto is blah blah blah" I dont mean lack of power as in he hasnt Ko'd alot of fighters, I mean a lack of power in the fact he doesnt have a real one punch knockout. The majority of Cotto's KO's over the last 5 years, have come in the later rounds, that is because he doesnt destroy you with one shot, he wears you down over a period of time. Judah was able to take quite a few of Cotto's stuff for much of the fight, until the accumulation of fatigue and taking so many shots finally caught up with him. Mosley on the other hand, took some mean shots from Cotto, and walked through most of them, eventually walking down Cotto in the later rounds. Which brings me to my next point

    4. Cotto is no Oscar De La Hoya. Oscar De La Hoya gave Mayweather the most problems stylistically he's ever had with a fighter. Oscar is faster then Cotto, he throws punches in bunches that are still incredible fast and accurate. His jab his still as Emmanuel said "the best in boxing" He is a better defender then Cotto, he was blocking a huge amount of shots from Mayweather on his gloves, even during the later rounds alot of Mayweathers best shots were actually only half landing. Oscar has a one punch KO. Mayweather was forced to respect Oscars power at 154, especially his left hook. A punch Cotto doesnt have in his repertoire. Mayweather will not be backed up by Cotto's slower jab, because at 147 against a smaller fighter (Cotto is only 5'6 with a reach 5 inches shorter then Mayweather) he wont have to fear such a shot as he did Oscar at 154.

In summation, I see a clear UD for Floyd. Somewhere in the ballpark of 9-3/8-4

Fitz, you make it seem as if Cotto is dumb fighter like Hatton. The fact is that Cotto is just as intelligent in the ring as Floyd is. Well, let me fix that b/c I know Floyd is the most intelligent fighter today. I will say that Cotto is very intelligent. Cotto doesnt just lunge in recklessly as you would have us believe.

You say that you can not overwhelm a defensive fighter. The problem with your argument is that you are saying this b/c it hasnt been done yet. You are saying b/c you havent seen Floyd overwhelmed, it cant be done. With that same argument (which is completely invalid) I can say Cotto cant be KO'd. Yes, he's been hurt, but never Ko'd so therefore it can not happen.

But i would never say that b/c I know Cotto is not perfect, but neither is Floyd. FLoyd is vulnerable to effective pressure. The problem is no one has been able to master Castillo's blue print many years ago. A lot of people give credit to DLH for writing a blue print to beat Tito, which was to box. Years later B-hop and winky were able to do it (DLH couldnt). However, that doesnt mean that DLH didnt offer valuable insight into how to defeat Tito.

Castillo has done that same thing. However, like many have stated...Cotto is like no other fighter FLoyd has faced. But at the same FLoyd is like no fighter Cotto has faced. This is truly a toss up fight and should not be taken lightly by any fighter.

We as fans are going to have our opinions and our analyses, etc...but when fans like you and other make ridiculous claims that are 99% based on invalid arguments, it makes you look foolish.

What makes your prediction even worse is the fact you predict Floyd to KO Cotto. When you are analysing a fight, you have to try to be unbiased. Saying FLoyd will Ko Cotto is worse than saying Cotto will outbox Floyd. It's just really the most unlikely scenario for a Floyd victory.

Floyd couldnt KO baldomir, Judah, or DLH. What in the world makes you believe he could Ko a young, hungry prime Cotto?
