How Will Felix Sturm Be Remembered?

Yawn, already forget him.

 

He will be remembered as a coward for ducking Golovkin & Martinez

He will also be remembered for losing to a fat out of shape blown up welterweight Delahoya.

 

He'll always be associated with Dela Hoya especially if their downplaying the golden boy.

Sadly he will hardly be remembered, pretty much like Calzaghe.

 

He won't be remembered much I guess.

The whole view on him is quite a bit distorted though. People here say he had quite the # of robberies in his favor, but it actually is the other way round in my opinion.
The only fight that he should have lost and didn't was against Macklin and of course Castillejo, while all the others should have been judged in his favor.

He's a ***** for ducking Gloveking though, but then again many other boxers are.

 

He and Joe Calzaghe will pretty much generate the same kind of memory.
Pretty good slightly above average fighters who feasted on mediocre competition for all of their careers. Neither will be remembered as contributing much to the sport or being mentioned in ATG listings.

 

For holding the title hostage in Germany.

 

Felix Sturm is like Arthur Abraham and Vitali Klitschko, a protected paper champion fighting in the adoptive hometown of paper champions, Germany.

Sturm has spent his entire career wasting our time with "title defenses" against cab drivers. He has always ducked the top contenders and title holders who had the style to beat him (and hurt him really badly), like Kelly Pavlik, Gennady Golovkin and Dmitry Pirog.

His best wins are a welterweight (De La Hoya) and a paper champion/cab driver from England who came into the fight with a broken hip. (I can't even remember the guys name, but I remember him giving me a lift to Leicester Square in his cab.)

 

Sturm has got excellent attractive boxing skills, a great jab, very tight defence and plenty of mental and physical toughness. He has great discipline, is smart, knows how to pace himself, nick key rounds, he has under-rated power etc. Also very few fighters stay around at the top of a division as long as he has done at 160. It cant all be luck. He must be doing something right. A middleweight would have to be very good indeed before I would confidently pick him to beat Sturm.

 

I will remember him as a giant question mark. At no point was he the best in the division, and for sticking around at the top so long his resume is devoid of big names. That being said he has beat several good fighters and I feel he had the talent to trouble anyone at the weight, a real shame we never got to find out.
