Tszyu was a class boxer. Had great skills, a lot of power and shocked a lot of people with the Judah KO. Impressive comeback against Mitchell and despite the **** that he gets for quitting against Hatton, I agree with him doing it- just look at McClellan. I'm sure if G-man had a choice to be called a quitter by some dip****-fans or to be a vegetable the choice would be easy. I don't feel he's an ATG as such, but always a pleasure to watch fight.:good As already mentioned he was a great amateur too. Check his fight against Vernon Forrest- mad skills. [YT]wEV9dyIYwI4[/YT]
A great fighter, no doubt. Unified a division (140) and stopped a lot of then current title holders - Jake Rodriguez, Sharmbah Mitchell, Zab Judah -etc. All great fighters lose, but Tszyu did a lot and had many excellent nights of boxing.
I am a Brit, but cannot see how Hatton can rank above Tszyu in the 140lb ATG list. Ricky breaks the top 10 on H2H and resume combined - higher H2H than resume I must add - top 5 H2H and top 12ish resume. Tszyu is a lock for the top 5 on both counts.
Exactly. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't seen Arguello v Pryor I. That Arguello beats Tszyu at 140 IMO.
Would be a top fight. I think Tszyu could most definitely beat him but no way in hell he "obliterates" him, he would not do it easy thats for sure.
He is penalized historically for not rematching Phillips. His ranking will be affected by the non rematch with Phillips. Considering he was not a fighter who fought often, he needed to rematch Phillips. The loss to Hatton was a confusing one because I don't think he wanted to quit, but it was a weird stoppage.
:good I just saw this thread and read it thru. I don't have anything to add, except to say the posts on this thread have made great reading. Much respect to those who contributed.
His trainer stopped it and I think it was good sense that he did. Even though it had been a close fight at that point Tszyu had nothing left. He was completely out of gas and had he come out for the last round he risked getting knocked out. He was not about to get a close decision in Manchester anyway (not that I think he deserved the decision anyway, after Hatton won the last round he would have been 2 rounds up or so).
