I really think the straight right had Pederson out on his legs. The following hook just finished taking him off his fee.
Enjoyed Matthysse's boxing last night. He made Peterson fall short a lot whilst still being on the front foot, then really stepped in to land his shots. Picked off a lot of shots with blocks and parries as well. Slipped Peterson's jab really well, transferred the weight so if he slipped inside the jab he could land his left hook, and if he slipped outside the jab he set his right hand up. The straight right to the midsection in particular is one of my favourite shots of his. Lovely left hook to begin the end.
Remember the days when you and I discussed how Lucas tended to be a bit "tramline" with his movement and approach and might be the sort of guy Khan would be suited to? And then fight by fight we discovered that his lateral movement had finally awakened? Now I'm in no doubt that this is the guy that makes Khan a star again.
I don't think we'll find out the answer to this. Maybe if he fought Maidana or Rios we'd find out. Aside from that, who at 140-147 is going to have the balls/chin/style to stand and bang with him? Peterson tried it. I think the thing with Mathysse is he sets up his shots, isn't easy to hit clean, is more than willing to counterpunch, and you expose yourself to tremendous risk every time you throw a punch due to his two-handed power and the way he varies the head and body attack. And now he really seems to have a seek and destroy mentality. He doesn't even think about winning rounds anymore, which makes him dangerous all the time. Before he would try to play the strategy game, back off to draw you in, box a little, etc. Now he's just out to get you and it ****ing works.
