Too many are overlooking this point !!!!! I say manny will find himself belly up by the 7th round !!!!
I see Pacquiao having a similar srategy as he did against DLH. Pacquiaos speed is something but in boxing no matter how good your defense is your going to get hit. Cotto will land. Pacquiao will also. For Cotto two things are going to be key for this fight. First his jab. That was a major asset in the Mosley fight and against Pacquiao it could work wonders. Second is his timing. Cotto is often overlooked in this department but he has excellent timing.
:good:good yea i dont think manny will go toe to toe with cotto. I can see him coming in with a game plan similar to the delahoya fight. Keep it in the center of the ring, when you feel the ropes in your back move to the center of the ring. He can use his speed and footwork easier when he is not against the ropes. When clottey had cotto in the center of the ring he hit him with couple of good shots. Manny is faster than clottey so i expect him to land even more and better accurate shots to cotto's face.
I say he'll be bothered by it especially to the body. Here's what Cotto needs to do to ensure a win come fight night. First at the weigh in he needs to say **** it come in at 147 and pay Pac the 2 mil and gain an early mental edge over Pac, if he wins he'll make that back easy with a mega payday against PBF so don't worry about the money. Come in on fight night weighing no less than 160 let the public and team Pac know he's in with a full fledge WW and not a drained walking dead corpse like Oscar. When the fight starts work behind an educated jab to get inside once there rough Pac up push him around and foul him if need be to set the tone that he's the boss and is the bigger and stronger man. Clinch clinch and clinch. Lean on Pac bang away to his body exposing his limited inside fighting game. Don't abandon your body attack early on in the fight if not successful at first. Don't retreat to the ropes if hurt or pressured keep circling and firing the jab or if hurt clinch don't retreat. If Cotto fights like this his power and strength will get to Pac around round 7 or so. Pac IMO is kind of a front runner not the fact that he can't go 12 rounds his stamina is good but that if you can get him to the mid rounds he starts to make a lot of mistakes and can be outboxed. With this game plan Cotto can beat Pac but only if he follows this IMO.
Pac has been hit "flush" by Marquez and was visibly stunned and he was ko'ed by body shots which is Cotto's specialty. On the other hand how will Cotto handle Pac's power. He's slow, heavy footed, and he sometimes telegraphs his punches. If he can land clean against Pac he has a chance because he's very heavy handed. Pac handles those situations with his speed and fighting at angles. If Cotto doesn't mentally give in like Hatton did when he realised the kind of speed he's up against and pressures he has a chance.
I'm sure Pac will be able to handle it just fine. It's Cotto who I'm worried about when it comes to power. Pac's defense/movement will play a major role in this one, even if Cotto catches him Pac won't allow him to keep following up. It's Cotto who has issues avoiding similar punches and we know how many punches Pac will be throwing especially if he has him hurt.
The difference is, WHEN Cotto begins to fade in the later rounds if it goes that far Pac will be able to follow up and take him out. He managed to keep Judah and Mosley at bay, but they hurt him in the later rounds, but was unable to follow up. Pac almost never has problems following up.
He needs to bring out that wooden stick again and get hit in the stomach, because Cotto definetly is going to the body.
Pac squares up though..Cotto will have PLENTY opportunities. Cotto should take him in the later rounds and really open up on him.
Just because he knocked out Hatton (who was on the verge of getting knocked out by Juan Lazcano) doesn't mean that he has great power above 130 ... he broke David Diaz down but Diaz took his punches, DLH and Marquez did as well. He doesn't have 1 punch knockout power - yeah he's broken guys down with accumulation but i'm not sure that he has the power to truely daze Cotto with one punch.
Believe me. Cotto will look TERRIBLY SLOW when he fights PAC. At the end of the fight, I'll pity Cotto you know why?! PAC haters will say... 1) He is NOT the same COTTO we used to know 2) He is never the same again after the margarito fight 3) Cotto is SHOT 4) PAC beat ANOTHER LEFT over of MARGARITO 5) Maragarito is WEIGHT DRAINED! They never run out of EXCUSES to DISCREDiT pac!:rofl
