cotto's power has diminished a bit since going north to 147....he still has some pop....but I was always more impressed with his power at 140 then at 147...
He did deal with Shane's speed. If he neutralizes Pac's, the fight is his. That's Pac's one big advantage. As long as Cotto's timing is on, he has a good chance to do that.
Perhaps, but you have to consider who he's fought at 147. Shane, Margarito, Clottey. Only Margarito has been KO'd now, and I have to think Cotto at least dented his chin, before Shane KO'd him.
One thing that worries about Cotto in this fight, is his tendency to plant his feet before he gets his power punches off. Could be a problem.
I see this too, while Pac throws combinations moving around his opponent. Still dangerous for Pac, he better stay at Cotto's weakside.
You're right Pacquiao is in disadvantage during the first half of the fight, but that doesn't mean that Cotto is not in danger. Pacquiao doesn't need to plant or even pause for a sec to land his power punches and combination. Cotto does that. Although, Cotto's endurance can most probably take Pacquiao's punches in the first half, but the damages that he will sustain will be a problem in the later half.
Your premise is wrong coz PAC speed is MUCH faster than Zab. Cotto doesn't fight smart when pressured?! You know very well that PAC puts a lot of pressure on his opponent coz that's his asset. Lightning speed! Go watch again the comments of PAC's opponets after the fight. Didn't you NOTICE?! Everybody looked TERRIBLY slow against PAC. Cotto would not be an EXCEPTION! cheers!
Pac's KO losses were as teenagers. Against Torrecampo at 17 and Singsurat at 19 or 20. He was so skinny then that he does not look like the Pac of today, even the facial feature were differnt. If you do not believe me, look it up in youtube. But those losses made him so determined to strengthen his body that he does 500 sit-ups a day. Even dutring sparring, he lets his partner hit him in the midsection. So the body thing might not be true anymore, plus it is hard to hit a body because it exposes your face to a counter. Most body punchers do it in close quarters or at clinch, not when you are at a distance, a style which Pac fights. This fight boils down on how strong Pac at this weight division against a legitimate welterweight (probably should be a superwelter). Cotto should impose his will. He will get hit but I do not think Pac will sit on his punches as he will try to be as mobile as possible. Cotto should be willing to eat 10 punches to load 2-3 punches of his, hopefully, the power would negate the volume discrepancy. Cotto has fast hands, but he has a very slow feet. He looked so uncoordinated when he was fighting on his backfoot against Mosley in the championship rounds.
The question would be can Pac hurt a bigger Cotto. If he can't, then the only way he can beat Cotto is by using his speed and quickness avoiding that known power, and just score a decision. Miguel Cotto could hurt Pac once he caught him.
