Two fighters that people question...who good were in their primes...some say that Ricky beat 1 elite fighter (Tzysu) out of 3 (Mayweather & Pacquiao). Others discredit John's his win over Marquez...and generally him as an A class fighter...
Ricky Hatton will be remembered by the casual fan, Chris John won't. Both good fighters, John has never attempted to make the step up, Hatton did and fell short.
Hatton will get knighted, make the hall of fame, remain a beloved British sports figure and be thought of as one of the second tier best of his era. John probably won't make the Hall, won't be remembered much outside of Indonesia (albeit remembered as the best fighter in the country's history) and diehard fans will debate what could have been and whether his one truly good win was a hometown robbery or not.
Losing one fight in your prime (or close to it) outside your best weight against the best fighter of your era is falling short??
That's a big deal and a lot of Pom's will hug Ricky's nuts for 30 years(they may be drunken pub larakins) and young gold diggers
Hatton will be remembered as a very good, entertaining, likable fighter. He was only ever beaten by the very best and gave boxing fans around the world plenty of fun nights. John will be remembered as someone who fought very, very weak opposition despite being in good divisions. He could have done a lot more but he decided not to. He had the talent but lacked the heart. There is a link that you can create here. Both are national heroes who could have stayed at home and made plenty of money, or risk it abroad. Hatton risked it whereas John was happy to collect money in Indonesia from fighting no hopers. That's why Hatton will be remembered more fondly than John will.
:deal Who did John beat? Juarez? who else? And who again is juarez? and gainer. and who else aside from marquez? NOTHING!
