Wrong. I'm breaking my self imposed break from this **** board to comment on this bull****.

The actual RING top 10 in 93.

Title Vacant
1. Evander Holyfield
2. Riddick Bowe
3. Lennox Lewis
4. Michael Moorer
5. Michael Bentt
6. Oliver McCall
7. Ray Mercer
8. Phil Jackson
9. Tommy Morrison
10. Mike Hunter
Moorer and Lewis were questionable at this point as both would go on to suffer bad knockout losses the following year in huge upsets. Holyfield was also in a bad place health wise and would temporarily retire after a poor performance against Moorer the following year. Bowe was still good but turning into a whale.

After the top 4 it is very suspect. Bennt was garbage who got in the top 5 with a upset over the fragile Morrison. Mcall was not well regarded, losing a stinker to Tucker and only beating a washed up Damiani. Mercer was spiraling having just traded wins with Jesse Ferguson and would draw with Maroin Wilson in horrid performances, also accused of bribary. Hunter and Jackson? And Morrison just got KOed in 1 by a nobody in Bennt but is still clinging to a top 10 standing, such was the sad state of the HWs in 93.

Great post mongoose, when broken down it seems that the heavyweight division at that point in time was weaker than today's division

It seems for a heavyweight division to be classed as golden 90% of the top fighters have to be american

if youre referring to Oquendo vs Chagaev, yes, it was a sham. one beating the other to be #1 is a joke of epic proportions

No problem with Thompson fighting the ranked guys
Jennings vs Perez is the exception to the rule so far
ive always given props to Fury for the haye and chisora "fights"

Glazkov vs Ademek was nice but look, Glazkov now fighting Derrick fuc.king Rossy for some reason the #84 ranked guy :-(

Chambers has been fighting guys with 20 losses

took Charr an entire career to finally step up to a Povetkin

Wilder hasnt fought a guy in the top 50

Lucas Browne is 36 and has fought nothing but crap

Andy Ruiz has 22 fights and still fighting crap

Solis finally stepped up to a 42 year and lost, fought once this year and nothing on the books

Stiverne fights 1 time a year

arreolla fights 1 time a year sometimes 2

povetkin has zilch on the books

its stagnant as always

i'm not reading through the whole thread....but i am excited about 3 heavyweights at the moment.

wilder
washington
ruiz

those 3 have legit shots to be champions in the next couple years.

fury is also another guy that makes me want to watch heavyweights. the rest just put me to sleep.

Some people only like black boxers.

They'll complain and whine about the division being weak until there's a champion they like.

No.

Who rates some of the American HWs of the last 10 years? I don't see too many. The K Bros, nor Povetkin quality guys would be rated as highly as what existed in the past, it just isn't of quality.

The American thing is overrated and often utilized to try and boost a fighter who has a cloudy legacy as great. Plenty of fighters have become huge stars and highly rated that are from elsewhere amongst US boxing fans and otherwise.

Pacquaio is almost universally rated as best of the 2000s, save for *****s, who are as deluded as Klitschko fanatics.

Just think if just these undefeated guys all started fighting each other and as a result were making noise in the sports pages, web sites, forums and sportscasts:

Wilder
Pulev
Ruiz
Browne
Glazkov
Jennings
Kayode
Parker
Washington
Green
Braezeale
Shimmell
Ortiz
Helenius
Martin
Costa Junior
Joshua

it is relevant because people are constantly saying modern hws are out of shape. these legends looked like they'd never seen a gym.

In my view Parker & Joshua are the 2 biggest young prospects at the moment.
Guys like Browne & Takam are both slow and will never win a big title.
Fury & Wilder are both entertaining to watch.

If Wlad is retired we have an open division, with a lot of good fights in the making (I hope).
