i'm gonna go w/ great event simply b/c a few different factors could make my decision go up or down on your list of option depending on how it plays out.

if all the guys come to fight and leave it all in the ring, regardless of whether someone has lost or has 2 losses, etc, and the champ of this thing earns it and there are no judging problems....it could be way up there on boxing events. especially if it spawns other such tournies.

but if guys start dropping out after losing or if someone w/ two losses just sort of shows up and phones a fight in and doesnt give it his all or if there is some sort of judging problem, then it may be lower on your list. i'm not sure how the points could factor in this either but hopefully its set up so the person w/ a higher point total really did earn it.

i have high expectations and cannot wait for these fights.

I think this poll needs to be done after the tourney not before.

Depending on how the fights themselves play out (in terms of entertainment value) and what the winner does in 2011 onward, somewhere between:

Classic Boxing Event: Will Be The Mark For Our Era Of Boxing
    and
Great Event: Will Be One Of The High Points Of Our Era But Not Up Top

    Impossible to say yet.

yeah man...i can't personally say i've sat down and thought of everyway the points could play out or if there is a scenario where someone could get "screwed" based on the points. i'm sure someone on here has...but i just havent thought about it b/c i'm holding out hope that won't be a problem. such a great idea and event to have something petty like that **** it up

It will be a great event in the sense that it sets an excellent precedent for the sport, but may not necessarily have ATG brawls (although theres bound to be some very entertaining fights).

It has a pretty big short-term impact and a possibly huge historical significance.

One thing is already done: 4 promoters representing 6 boxers from 5 countries and also 4 TV stations sat down and actually worked out something so big that the media is all over the tournament, which is very good. Nothing like this happened to boxing in a long, long time. But the pressure is now huge to deliver bigtime.

If the tournament somehow fails in front of the eyes of the world media, either by simply not living up to the expectations or totally falling apart due to pull-outs, injuries, financial problems etc., or leaving a bad taste due to bad judging/stoppages etc., it'll be remembered as a possibly "final attempt in boxing to do something big, but ultimately failing in an epic way", which would be terrible.

But if does go all the way with the expected fireworks, huge ratings and the emergence of a (or multiple) superstar(s), it will have a huge impact on professional boxing. If it's successful, it's going to be a series for a long time, and that is what boxing lacks currently.

Boxing today has single events, meaning every show has to be built up from zero having almost zero long-term effect once it's over (because the next has to be built up the same hard way). But something like UFC is very popular because it's a series, and such as, it only has to be built up once to catch people's attention. And they will remember to turn on for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time, so a major part of the whole money invested can be spent on better match-ups, more competitive undercards and better entertainment during an event to keep the attendance and audience happy.

Therefore a successful series can bring boxing to the front pages again, and if everything comes off, this will be remembered not only for it's great fights and names, but as the start of something really big.

And aside some haters whose fighter was left out or never wanted to join, most of us truly and honestly hope it becomes as big as it looks.

Depends.. I think if they set up similar tournaments in other weight classes (with good fighters of course, too) it will be remembered forever as the "Showstarter" ......
Otherwise it will be on of the biggest things this era...

If there are no major injuries and none of the fighter pull out and there are no postponements, it will be a great event.

Impossible to say with so much yet to happen.

That promoters/tv can agree to something they consider mutually beneficial is significant, but means little if some start pulling out. It could end up discouraging such things. At this point, we can only wait and see.

If it does go well, I think it's huge and I'd see tv demanding more 4-man tourneys.

For us real boxing fans it could be one of the greatest events ever staged but not too many outside of hardcore boxing fans don't even know about the tourney or who the fighters are.

I think Showtime put in a lot of money and effort to promote this show. Press conferences, commercials, Fight Camp 360, and the opener offers two pretty damn solid fights featuring 4 fighters who all appeared at least twice or regularly on Showtime or other TV in the US. And those who will miss the live show but catch a replay later hearing how good it was, will turn up for the next episode, this is where the tournament/series format pays off bigtime.

It depends on how it plays out. It has the potential to be huge because it could be getting more exciting as it goes along.

If all the fighters end up being equal enough which would make the fights competitive and nobody is forced to pull out due to injury then the last round of fights, the semis and the final could be massive.

If some fighters end up being destroyed and don't come back in their next fight, or if injuries cause delays or fighters to pull out, the tournament could lose momentum and fizzle out.
