Because it seems like AJ takes the rematch very seriously and is training very hard with the best people in the business. I think the judges and ref will also help AJ, considering 1 judge managed to score the first fight 115-113 and also considering British Matchroom invested millions of dollars on AJ.
So rather than use his longer reach and touch Usyk with his jab, then pressure the smaller guy against the ropes, AJ will box defensively so as to avoid Usyk's punches, while throwing nothing back in return. Great idea. Seems as though AJ KNOWS that Hearn has the ref and the judges in the bag. All AJ has to do is survive for 12 rounds and he'll win, no question about it.
I can't stand when fighters believe that the shoulder roll is the only solution on winning. The shoulder roll doesn't automatically make you a better defender and it certainly doesn't make you a better fighter. Be your own fighter and stop imitating others.
Teaching AJ to not use his physical advantages against a quicker, smarter and more skilled fighter is going to be fun to watch. If AJ tries to fight like Floyd, he’s going to get beaten worse than the first fight. His only chance is to try to bully Usyk and get him to run into a big shot or two. His chances are slim but trying to outbox a guy like Usyk is going to be a great fight for Usyk fans. Unless they can go back in time and teach AJ at a young age, and spend countless hours in the gym training a new style, this is a mistake. AJ has huge physical advantages against most guys and against Usyk. I could easily see him getting KOd this time.
Agreed. Usyk should pressure him and try to take him out late when AJ gasses. Matchroom REALLY wants that big money fight with Fury. I’m amazed they didn’t steal the first one.
Usyk is too quick mentally and physically for AJ to use his physical advantages such as reach and height. He could try the old Chisora bullrush but he hasn't got it in him. If Joyce had issues employing that tactic AJ ain't got a chance.
IMO, learning anything new is a bad idea. Joshua needs to use what's in his muscle memory and be coached by somebody who can make him believe in his abilities. Since Klitcshko he's looked like someone trying to remember a new skill in all his fights. It's too late for that now.
I think having too much input on where he needs to go stylistically won't necessarily help him. Joshua is clearly not the brightest and has issues with confidence. Too much input, especially if contradictory advice, won't help at all. The judging is a factor, but as we saw from the first fight - Usyk is capable of putting on a performance that leaves no doubt who the victor is.
I challenge folks to name one fighter Mayweather had a positive impact on. He saps the promise from young fighters. I expect even worse from an older fighter.
AJ could spray Lynx body spray in his eyes !! That might work ? Or put that towel on his old fella like in the advert ? .I doubt the shoulder roll is going to help .
I agree I thought Usyk would win but he would get robbed in the first fight. It makes more sense though on the rematch as I doubt there will be a rematch clause for the next fight. So if the robbery is on the cards he can at least go and unify. I've said for a while is that Joshua only needs to go the distance and make it a bit closer ie win a couple of more rounds if it's an 8-4 or a 7-5 for Usyk then you can put your money that Jodhua will get the nod. Also pulling a robbery twice on the trot maybe a bit too much if however AJ "wins" the rematch then it will get played by Sky and the media as a redemption arc as Joshua gets revenge. I would rather have some fireworks though I'm just not convinced about AJ's confidence in going in and making it a dog fight.
