Well he didn`t have 9 losses and would have increased his win rate if he never retired in the early 80`s.
Well the first 6 losses were on cuts and his record is highly respectable. Two wins against Vito Antuofermo who seems to be highly regarded on here, the second fight Minter beat him up. Three wins against Kevin Finnegan and stopping a still highly regarded Sugar Ray Seales are not to be sneezed at either. Plus his loss to Hamsho some thought he won, although not me. Stark statistics on a sheet can’t always tell the whole story Mark. Anyway, this is true to form, it’s not like you to have a pop at a British Middleweight.
Funnily enough, I was looking at Minter's record yesterday and of those 9 losses, 8 of them were by KO... except that 6 of those 9 were on cuts. If Minter had tougher skin, he might only have half that number of losses. Context is everything.
As long as you defeat what is put in front of you, that is a good thing. It is not a fighters job to make the bigger fights, it is the responsibility of the fighters management and promoter. Anybody can have an off night, or accidentally get butted by his opponent. Maybe his opponent has nothing to lose as we saw in Mike Tyson vs James Buster Douglas on Feb 11 1990 in Tokyo, Japan.
Maybe if he had left the street walkers alone in Tokyo, do you really think he would have? A man is a man realistically, his ex wife Robyn Givens was not in the picture anymore,, he was bored at a young age with the title. Then why did he leave Kevin Rooney in the first place?
Don King got Tyson to sack Rooney because he wanted complete control over Mike and knew Rooney would try to protect Mike from getting ripped off and like Elvis with Colonel Tom Prker had a grip on Tyson and could con and manipulate him.
