A lot of pundits predicted Nas would win back in the day like Dan Rafael but how do you think the fight goes? I can't see anything but a clear win for Marquez similar to Barrera. Plus JMM is good against southpaws. I can imagine Prince causing a knockdown but Marquez is like Sugar Ray Leonard when he's under pressure he fights back.
Even if Hammed catches him mid fight or late, marquez has proven he'll get up off the canvas and keep throwing down .. Hameds unorthodox style would keep things interesting, but marquez could methodically outbox him over the course of 12 rounds. And if it turned into an all out slugfest, I would still favor marquez to land the better shots and score the KO
When Marquez originally became number 1 challanger to Hamed, so in late 90s - I think Hamed had a good chance and I'd probably make him small favorite. Marquez learned a lot from the Norwood fight I believe, so if He fought Hamed before that, He'd still lack experience on that level. Marquez wasn't the name that Barrera was, so fight could've taken place in U.K. Hamed was a bit younger also what might've helped, not sure at what point making weight became a struggle and his hands began to really bother him. Prime for prime Marquez takes Naz I'm pretty sure, but I think there was a right moment for Naz to take the fight and He probably missed out on his big opportunity to have a true legacy win that would grow with time.
I fancy JMM myself. Good posts on this thread. A guy like Naseem always has a chance because of his unusual style and power but if I had to put money on it I'd put it on Marquez.
JMM is an even better counter puncher than Barrera, remember the way Barrera fought Hamed was not his usual style. So going by that logic, JMM should win a pretty comfortable UD barring a flash knockdown.
JMM by highlight reel schooling. You can’t be as sloppy as Hamed was against a technician like Marquez without being made to pay…repeatedly.
JMM hits the canvas once of twice before getting his range and timing down and finding counters and prince starts hitting the deck and then doesn't get up.
Marquez schools Hamed with monotonous ease. At 126, he was less inclined to give the crowd a show and boxed to his strengths, plus that’s before his reflexes slowed. Marquez was a warrior and a true competitor, he always just needed the right fights to bring it out.
