How Would A Floyd Patterson Vs Ray Mercer, Trioligy Play out?

Floyd wins a trilogy possibly all 3.Conversely Mercer rapes Ingo!

 

Patterson wins 2/3 if not all 3. Mercer was strong and tough but not that smart and not a particularly great finisher. Power was a little bit overrated too. If Patterson boxes well he could take it. Just has to crowd Mercer so he doesn't have room to load up his bombs and takes him to school. Might resemble the Chuvalo fight.

 

Floyd is a level above Mercer and should outbox him, but there is a danger.

 

Floyd, all three. Too fast, too clever.

 

I guess you could compare this with Patterson vs Chuvalo.

Chuvalo like Mercer strong guy with granite chin, but Patterson was able to decision him.

The only thing is Ray Mercer has a fair dig on him, and if he caught Patterson, he could finish him.

But I agree with the others who say, Patterson would be too fast and too clever.

But I can see a motivated Mercer, maybe winning one out of the 3 fights via KO.

Yes I agree Pattersom had the heart of a lion, but still he was very chinny.

Dropped 9 times vs Johansson, 4 times vs Quarry, 3 times vs Liston. I think he was floored over 20 times in his career.

So even though Patterson is a class above Mercer, it's not out of the realms of possibility. That the much bigger Mercer who had respectable power. Couldn't stop Patterson in atleast 1 out of the 3 fights.

Remember Patterson isn't stopping granite chinned Mercer. So Patterson would have to be very careful over the 12 rounds.

Oh, it's possible but Ali(2), Johansson(2) Bonaven, Moore,Quarry(2) Chuvalo, Ellis, Cooper etc couldn't ko Floyd, he was easy to catch and knock down but not that easy to keep down.

 

I got Patterson winning at least 2 out of 3. Ray Mercer was strong, tough, his power was of the thud variety. He didn't have exceptional quickness to catch Patterson with a shot he doesn't see coming. Even down Floyd gets up to last the route IMO.

 

Unbeaten Mercer? Do you mean Mercer from prior to his fight with Holmes, or from an alternative universe where he had the ring IQ to beat Larry?
