How would a Prime Tommy Morrison do today?

Really, if Morrison had been black, we would have never heard of him. But he was a "white hope" so boxing milked it for all they could get.....

 

Number 3. One of the hardest punchers of all time. Couldn't beat the K bros, but would destroy the Areolloas, Thompons, Chambers, Povetkins

A good question that you raised and there's no reason why Tommy Morrison wouldn't do very well in today's heavy division. It's certainly a weaker division than the one he competed in.

 

Morrison would be in the mix for a title shot and seen as a top contender due to being american and exciting. He's more athletic than the majority of heavyweights today and that alone would make him stand out and be competitive.

But he was a flawed fighter, crude, predictable, poor defence and a weak chin. I could see him possibly beating Povetkin or Helenius though he could just as easily get KO'ed by them. He would lose to Haye, might give Adamek a scare before being stopped and would get KO'ed early against either Klit.

If he catches Wlad, it's over. If Wlad catches him, it's definitely over. If he... nah, no chance vs Vit.

 

He'd knock out some washed up names, get knocked out by bums, still probably not wear a condom...exactly like his 90s career, probably.

 

Thinking about it some more, having seen the Mercer fight again, I'd pick Arreola by knockout. Morrison would outbox him, but wouldn't be able to handle the pace and pressure and it would only take a few good punches on a tired Tommy to sway the fight in Arreolas direction.

 

even better than he did in the early 1990s. Tommy was a pretty good fighter, but he was very inconsistent and did not have a great chin. But he had power and good speed.

 

Mercer had a monster chin.

 

Arreola's no china-chin, better fighter (skillwise) than Mercer, and never stops pressuring. He has a lot less power, but would be hitting Morrison with more punches. I think he outlasts Tommy's and stops him late.

 

Arreola lost to Adamek... Adamek isn't even a real heavy.

I mean Arreola could maybe catch Morrison and KO him, I guess.
