How would a prime Wanderlei Silva do against jon jones of today?

No version of Shogun beats Jones either, I'm sure Shogun is aware of this himself.

The person to beat Jones will need great power, great TDD, a great and active guard, great wrestling and a lot of strength.

 

Jones is really untapped at the moment so it's hard to say this or that..... I will say one thing and even though he has a weak resume to date, he cant have been more impressive so far.

Jones next 3 or 4 fights will tell us more

That's what I've been telling you all since the beginning. I do believe in the central importance of punch resistance in MMA and boxing but I can also debate and argue the science until I'm blue in the face, but so far people like this joke have declined to argue on the basis that "he's a chinchecker".

I'm not exactly agreeing with your assessment in this thread either. I think the jury is still out on Jones, though they'll probably stop deliberating soon. Ironically, I want to see his chin checked.

 

Was Shogun not at 100%? Possibly. You'll never know how well he could have been or well he was so you can only go off of what you know know, which is;

Shogun has always had **** takedown defense. Jones would have roughed him up on the mat, regardless.

Shogun has had trouble with a tall, rangy striker before, Overeem, and only beat him after having grappled him until Alistair was on E, both times. Jones isn't Overeem, as in he doesn't have bad cardio, a glass jaw, and no wrestling ability but he is Overeem in the sense that he is a monster in the clinch and he's got decent hands and damn good kicks, exactly what troubled Shogun against Alistair.

And you say 2005 Shogun would have killed him when 2005 Shogun couldn't move laterally without crossing himself up and couldn't throw a combination outside of the Wanderlei caveman hooks. Oh yeah, that guy would've beat Jones.:rofl

 

I haven't conceded a point to you or anyone else, yet, but I'm not here just to **** you guys off on the importance of mandibular fortitude and that's what many have refused to realize thus far.

And yes, I'm anxious to see Jones' chin checked, as well, but I don't have any bad feelings about it thus far because Shogun and Bader both connected and Vera kicked him square in the mouth and he barely reacted.

 

Going forward, is there ever going to be another fighter involved in combat sports who would have a chance at getting you to say "Realistically the game has moved on, and even under PRIDE rules this guy would be a clear betting favourite over Shogun or Wandy"?

Or are those two plus Cro Cop and Fedor going to be regarded as utterly invincible under PRIDE rules for the next thousand years? :huh

And for the record, what is your reason for saying that Jones couldn't adapt to stomping and soccer kicks? His style is NOTED for its brutality. His only loss comes from landing an illegal elbow. Is Jones going to be LESS dangerous with fewer rules to restrain him?
