How would Ali’s legacy be if he had served his time in the Army?

I wonder if people (racists) revered Joe Louis mainly because he knew his "place". Jack Blackburn molded his image into the polar opposite of Jack Jackson. The war was nonsense for African Americans anyway. The US deliberately selected a huge chunk of the black male population even though white males outnumbered them entirely.

I have to agree with you 100 percent. It was a waste of human life to satisfy warmongering politicians. Many brave men and women were killed in that war or they came back maimed or mentally destructed.

WW ll was a very different war. We were attacked and in an existential battle against fascism.

If you are right, then he probably ends up back in the ring, on more or less the same date.

We were attacked by the Japanese Empire on Dec 7 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress for a declaration of war on Dec 8 1941, as soon as we declared war on Japan, Germany and Italy declared war on us.

My pops served in Korea and Nam and was awarded Bronze Stars for his service in both. I also have three siblings who served, two of them officers. They all respected Ali's decision. They just saw the world differently.

My sister is a pediatric nurse. In the armed forces she was a captain. She was vacationing in Africa when she was called back for Desert Storm.

You should be very proud of your family. I served 6 honorable years in the Air Nation Guard from 1979-1985, I was a Sergeant.

My dad did twenty years military and twenty years civilian military. He joined Uncle Sam's army at the ripe old age of seventeen. He made a nominal investment along the way in a Black owned community bank that he parlayed into a seven figure gain. He was a huge Ali fan as were a lot of the Black G Is of his era. Like I said they just saw the world a little differently.

Audie Murphy did it all, was the bravest man I’ve ever read about and a true friend and ally of peace, democracy and freedom and he came back so scarred he held his wife at gun point, couldn’t eat certain foods that reminded him of organs without throwing up and was utterly tragic.

They gave it all for us in those wars and anyone who doesn’t do there part to protect there freedom when the action calls for it (Not Vietnam) is a traitor to us all. Sometimes you have to seperate politics and acts for people.

I would like to also say thank you and anyone you know or knew for your part in service to democracy.

Ali would have boxed exhibitions for the troops...physical fitness....stuff like that! They wouldn't have sent him to the fighting...
