Vitali hits practically just as hard as 70's Foreman, the difference is vitali is fast and doesn't waste punches..foreman was the worst boxer that was ranked in the 70's,he got by on size...ereplace him with a better chinned,6'7 250 pounder who had skills and see how that goes for Ali.
Times change. There was a time when people thought the earth was flat. There was also a time when running 10 miles and sparring 12 rounds a day was the best training a boxer could do. The introduction of strength and conditioning coaches to boxing has done boxing a world of good. Fighters are bigger, faster and stronger than ever before. Take one look at a Jimmy Wilde fight, he wouldnt even be fit to lace Lee Selby's gloves if he was put into todays game. And just to say, the 70s was the break out for steroids, many bodybuilders have stated that the steroids in the 70s were incredibly strong compared to now. There were also no drug tests in boxing untill 1976. Now im not saying every boxer in the 70s took steroids, but it would have been much easier to get away with it back then.
You really couldn't make it up. This dummy has to be the worst world title holder since John Ruiz, and people are actually claiming he would out jab Ali. There was an American president about whom it was said " he couldn't fart, and chew gum at the same time " Klitchko is the same when it comes to jabbing and doing ANYTHING else at the same time. He has to stand stock still like a statue to throw his jab. Luckily enough for him with the exception of the guys who sparked him and Haye the guys he has beaten were even slower and more static than him, and he has had some measure of success with it. Against Ali, who was perpetual motion he couldn't land ONE jab if the fight went on all night.
I couldn't care less how times change. Starting with Jack Johnson, and working your way through to the present day show me another 6' 3" 210 lb or more fighter who moved and made fighters miss like Ali. As McVey said in another thread he saw Ali giving an exhibition later in his career and it did in fact seem as if he floated around the ring. I'll give you a month to get back to me.
i dont like Wlad or Ali so im not biased. Its hard to predict how much better Ali would be if he used advanced training methods. Same with Wlad, its hard to predict how much his performance would decrease if he used the old '100 situps, 8 mile run and 12 round spar per day' approach to training. But if i had to say, id probably still give Wald the nod. Klitschko would be very upright, tight and technical. Ali was at his best dancing around opponents who he was taller than and had a longer reach than. He was not comfortable getting in on the inside. Klitschko is comfortable plodding around the ring making the fight very boring, throwing jab after jab after jab, he is an expert at keeping opponents at bay. Klitschko has 5 inches in height over Ali, and a 4 inch reach advantage. This means that the only way for Ali to win is to fight on the inside as he is out reached and is the smaller man, which he is not familiar with. All Wlad has to do is fight the same way he has for 10 years, exactly the same. Its a horrible match up for Ali.
Why do people invent garbage to try to endorse their obvious agendas? Ali 6' 3" 78" reach. Klitchko 6' 6" ( not 6' 8" ) 81" reach. Williams 6' 3" 80" reach Terrell 6' 6" 82" reach Liston 6' 1" 84" reach 6 more than Ali. So much for Ali only being able to dance around shorter guys with shorter reaches. A fight between them would be like the Haye fight but with one huge difference. Ali would make Klitchko miss much more easily than Haye did, but he would punish the big dope for doing so with rapid combinations instead of trying to survive. It is a mismatch. I'd liken it to Corrales / Mayweather where Diego was getting countered for even thinking of throwing a punch at Mayweather.
Ali moved well for a heavyweight, is that what your trying to say? if so then yes, i agree. Ali moved very well and fast for a heavyweight. Ali also had many disadvantages which people seem to miss. For example, his stamina was not very good, look at his fights with Frazier, In all 3 fights he clearly tires whilst frazier does not, in the first fight he goes through a period of 3 rounds (cant remember what rounds exactly) where he is very slow, fatigues and flat footed. In the second fight Ali looked very fatigued also, by round 6 he clinched Frazier 77 times. More than Klitschko which he gets critisized for. He was prone to left hooks. He would whip his head back after landing a combo to miss a punch, leaving his chin wide open with his hands down. Ali is not this perfect man that everybody sees in him. Your not really making a good argument? Find me ANY boxer ever who can punch as hard as Earnie Shavers and knocked people out like Shavers. Does that mean Earnie beats Ali just because he hits harder? Clearly not. Same with Ali and Wlad. Just because Ali moved better than Klitschko doesnt mean he would beat him.
Bigger? Clearly. Stronger? Easily. Fitter? Slightly. Ali gets gassed too, although people choose not to see it because people seem to believe he is a god. which he is not. They like to think he waltz around his opponents and not get hit for rounds upon rounds. He got beat up in the first Frazier fight. He hugged Joe Frazier to death in the second fight (would have been a DQ if it was any other fighter). And used the 'fishing pole' tactic in the 3rd fight with frazier (also a DQ if it was any other fighter).
Ali probably lied about his height, Larry Holmes is said to be 6"3 and Ali was clearly the shorter man when they fought. Id say there is a good 4 inches between Wlad and Ali
Your last sentence pretty much sums up this entire match up ! Good to see more posters with a brain on here to explain the mismatch here....
